Your mom shoots too much, I got nothing, but I kinda think, since he's one of those dynamo offensive players he gots to gets his rythm and without taking a lot of shots he can't make a lot of shots. You gotta spend money to make it holmes.

There's a big difference between forcing shots (as it looked like TMAc does sometimes) and "not being tentative".

No one wants TMac to lose his aggressiveness or become tentative during a shooting slump. Some of us just don't want him to keep jacking up 20+ footers when guarded well. I'm sure JVG doesn't want that either. As many here have pointed out - they would prefer him to drive to the hoop and/or dish the ball. He moves really well without the ball and we do have another guy that gets double teams.

The focus of the offense should be to score the points - to get the best available shot every time downcourt.

The only way to get out of a funk is to shoot your way out of it.

But yeah, I've been crying for us to pound the post ever since Howard went out. It's time for Yao to show us he can get his 20/10.

It's hard to win games without Van Chancellor

That's soooo wrong. It is not shooting your way out of it, it is to get the foul shots, you make 2 FTs or more on the line and you will get your shooting touch back!!!

You can't get to the line if you don't shoot the ball.

I played college basketball, and throughout those days as well as HS, I was a primary scorer on my teams. While I clearly didn't have Tmac-type talent, I can tell you that the concept of "shooting your way out of a slump" should only apply if your team lacks any other decent offensive weapons.

While you are "looking" for your shot, you are digging a bigger and bigger hole for your team.

On certain days, be it the particular ball being used, the matchups, the arena, how your body is feeling, whatever....you just don't have it as much as you do on others. This is when you STOP taking the low percentage shots in your arsenal...every player has them and knows what they are...for guards it's often pulling up for threes off the dribble, fadeaways with defenders in your grill, etc.

A smart player should always be conscious of his field goal percentage during the game and not let it get to the point to where you are taking your team out of contention with your cold hand, even if you are the best player on the squad.

The supposition that "great players always believe that there next 10 shots are going in, even if they've missed their last 10" is true, but has limitations. Great players will work to position themselve in order to make their next 10 by driving, getting to the line, etc...they don't keep taking the long jumpers. Tmac hasn't learned this yet, and to me, that's what separates his offensive game from Kobe's.

You also won't get to the line shooting outside fadeaways.

I've got a great idea to help us improve, lets take our primary offensive threat and have him halve the ammount of shots he takes. perfect!

Atleast he got off a shot... instead of running out the clock dribbling, isn't that right Steve Francis?.. I don't know why ya'll are complaining .. when T-mac shoots just as much and makes the basket .. ya'll are just riding all over him like god. We're better than we have been all year. Appreciate it! :D

If JVG has to tell Tracy "What are you doing?" when he passes up shots and tells him "KEEP SHOOTING" I dont think he's shooting too much... Not to call you out, but I value that NBA coaches opinion alot more than yours longrangesniper

Count me as one of the ones who does not mind Tracy taking a lot of shots even when he is having an off night.

There's a reason why he gets those 30 points. It's by shooting well. No player, unless you go to the FT line at the rate of a Kobe or AI, can get 30+ points by shooting in the 20-30% range.

T-Mac's been putting up some bad shots lately. Those didn't seem so bad earlier when he was hitting them at a fairly decent clip. But recently he's bee horrible with them. Yet he still refuse to drive to the basket to compensate.

:( longrangesnippitt, if you were with the Rockets at the beginning of the season, you might have heard Van Gundy tell McGrady to take more shots, and stop trying to a back seat to get others more involved while finding his place on the team. In addition to releasing the hounds, JVG also let TMac know that any shot he takes is a good shot and JVG would never tell him he made a bad shot decision. How many people you know can actually block his jumper?

Your are not a good fan if you aren't remembering the history or past, so keep up with the team and stop starting useless dumb threads.

I don't post unless I'm mad. So stop waking me up.

I don't think anyone is arguing with TMac's shots when he moves the ball around. The problem is when he runs up and shoots an off balance 20 foot jumper with 20 seconds left on the shot clock. He did this quite often during the fourth quarter tonight. That shot is available anytime. Our offense is much more efficient when we move the ball around, making sure McGrady gets an open look.

Here's his stats over the last five games:

    9-29, 20 pts
    6-15, 19 pts
    8-22, 22 pts
    4-22, 15 pts
    8-27, 26 pts

    35-115, 30.4%

    Collectively, that's 30.4%. Unacceptable.
