I don't see why he would keep his option year. He is coming off his best year and has never had a long contract. He will be looking for a 3-4 year contract around 10M-16M. If we trade Sura or James he is an excellent cheap option. I also don't see how taking a two-year 5.25M contract from Miami is jilting the Rockets. Obviously the Rockets offered less - maybe they offered him the Charlie Ward deal two-year guaranteed at about 3.5M.
Exactly, Rockets fans shouldn't be boasting about their point guards. This is silly. Damon Jones would be great for this team, especially with his three point efficiency.
He was playing on one leg. He shouldn't have even been out there. That was as much on Van Gundy as it was on Jones.
I thought overall he had a good playoff run. What is he, the 4th or 5th option on offense? He made shots, he made stops, he played pretty well. No, he didn't play as well as Chauncey Billups, but you're talking about last year's finals MVP here. Yeah, I'd still want him on this team.
Funny how people start to HATE once you're down...the guy had a great season and very good first two rounds of the playoffs...the guy was also hampered by a bad ankle in this series (why didn't you mention that part???)
2 things from this post: 1. Is this really Rockets Game Action & Roster Move? 2. How does anybody jumped-in-the-air ? Isn't it just "jump" or just decided "not-to-shoot" ?? Explain that one, Will...
Despite a very solid overall season, especially for what Miami pays him, I would not take on as the 13th man, no way. Hell no. Come on now, the Detroit Pistons taking you off your game in a playoff series. Shesh. When has that happened to a good basketball player.
Like Sura in the playoffs? So Damon was out there with a surgically repaired, aching back and a knee that should've been operated on 2 months ago? I'm happy with Sura.
i can give you a great explanation for his assist to turnover ratio. throw the ball into shaq every once-in-awhile for a dunk and then proceed to chunk up threes. it's very easy for a PG to have such a great ratio when he only carries about 30% of the ballhandling duties (dwyane wade takes the ball up the court A LOT more than he does), and then whenever you do get the ball you either throw up a three or dump it into shaq. he averaged 6 three point shots a game during the playoffs. sorry i'll take the guys we have and a ton of other PG's out there over him.
And why did he have such a great A/TO with Milwalkee for most of the year before after TJ Ford, the expected starter, went down. Who was Milwalkee's Shaq? Maybe he just has good discipline and makes fundamental plays.
LOL. Remember last week when you claimed that you only bashed Yao because people were comparing him to Amare and you only did it to "set people straight". Who are you setting straight in this thread? You're the only one that brought Yao into this thread discussion. Face it man. You're obsessed and need help.
I graduated from U of H in 1998. In 1997, I saw Jones play against Louisville at Hoffienz Pavillion. Damon Jones used to get the ball from the inbound passer, look at the goal, dribble toward it, and then launch 25 ft. 3-pointers all night long. With Miami, he got star struck again. If you saw the coverage of the series with Detroit and before then with Washington, you'd see that he reverted to just jacking up long range bombers. Some will say that is what Jones was there to do, but look at the lack of assists in the Detroit series. It was pretty sh-itty basketball.
But you know over the last 2 years Detroit has got every other guard not named Wade to play ****ty basketball too. Damon Jones was in over his head, but he had a fine regular season and playoffs until that series. Jones is an OK player, probably best as a 1st rate back-up, and he is paid less than a 1st rate back-up. There is noting wrong with him or his contract. Probably had he not had that series versus Detroit, Miami would have had to give him a substantial raise and commitment to keep him. Now, I expect Miami to probably keep him at about his option year rate even if the contract is extended. If Miami was going to lose, Jones playing badly wasn't a bad scenario. Now they probably keep him for the same rate, resign Zo, match any reasonable offers for Haslem, and still have complete freedom to look for another piece to add to the puzzle, either a better PG (move Damon to 6th or 7th man role) or another forward. Miami had a fine year (especially given the roster changes) and is in excellent position going into next year to compete for the 2006 title.
