Speaking as an engineer, I can say that it clearly isn't for everyone. What I would suggest is try to get into Marketing, Accounting or Finance, and then once you're done with your undergrad, go back and get your MBA (Masters). My first suggestion would be to try and stick it out in engineering, because with that degree, you can literally get a job in any field you want, but if you feel like you wouldn't be able to pass your courses, then so be it. Accounting would be by far the most preferable, since you can obtain your CPA afterward, and then your career is set. I would talk to your school and see if there is any way you can somehow get into the Accounting program. It might mean taking an extra semester of courses or something to get your GPA up, but in the long term, I think it would be well worth it.
If you suddenly switch majors after completing 60% of the course work wouldn't you also be throwing a big chunk of those 3 years? I would say go ahead and finish up your engineering coursework and get your degree. If you are interested in business do a business minor or after you graduate do a two year MBA.
Stick with engineering, especially since you are at a foreign school. A foreign business degree may not be that appealing to employers here. That being said, I know and work with a lot of engineers who went to school abroad
40% of the 60% can carry over to any course i shift to. 40% of it were minors. guys... i really can't finish engineering. besides, if i continued it, it would probably take longer to finish than if i shifted course. hmm i'm gonna inquire about finance. i can't get into accounting anymore, i have a failed subject and they don't allow that. the college i go to is La Salle. i think they have some La Salle colleges in the States right?
Have you thought about getting a sex change and moving to Thailand to be a bar girl? (Seriously, this is good advice! College is so overrated.)
You going to the Philippines to study in the first place was a huge mistake. Why would you, an American citizen, study abroad, when there are so many abroad people who wish they could have an opportunity to study in United States? With financial aid and if you keep your grades up, you could freeload to pretty much any school in the states. You finishing 3/5 of your engineering degree and dropping is about to be another mistake. You don't have to work in your area of specialty. With an engineering degree, you tell prospective employers that you're pretty damn good with math, a quality many people don't have. This means you can do other things that require number crunching. Also, you don't need a buisness degree to go for MBA. So if you want to get an MBA later, you would still have the credentials. If I were you, I would just suck it up and finish engineering and plan something later.
This. Millions of people from around the world including some of the world's poorest countries scrape together every cent they can so that they can come and study in American universities, and you, an American citizen with access to federal financial aid options and cheaper school fees that international students don't have, are cheaping out to go study in the Philippines instead? Why?
I tend to agree with above two posters. Not to say you won't be able to find a job (esp. if you stay with engineering), but I don't think you did yourself any favors going overseas. American companies want to see credible American schools.
I know a some of the big companies are moving a lot of accounting jobs overseas. The high level jobs aren't being moved yet but I would never say never.
Guys... please stop giving me bad rap for going to the Phil. If I had to choose between family over career. I'd choose family. What's done is done and I can't change it. I came here because it was best for my fam. so please stop telling me that i made a big mistake...
Ugh, I don't even want to think about that... I'm doing my internship in auditing right now, and it's definitely not a career I want to get stuck in. Hopefully there'll still be some cushy controller jobs out there, I picked this stupid major because of the job security dammit! Haha. Positive thoughts.
