That's understandable. I'm not a 30 year Rockets fan like some people here, but I also don't get into discussions about Elvin Hayes.
Wait, I'm kinda confused here. So you for Artest for his attitude or against it? I like Artest's attitude, but the way you picture it, hes a guard dog on a rich man's front porch
Oh yeah, let's count how many rings he's helped them win...Oh wait, that's right! They haven't won SQUAT since he's been there performing his 16-year old football diva act.
I'm obviously for Ron Ron. but in the argument who's crazier, I say Artest. Maxwell was a really nice guy who got the wrong rep and messed with the wrong women.
Being tough is one thing. Being an insane b*stard is quite another. Artest is the latter and I don't buy all of his PR spin for one moment and never will. Up here, the Cowgirls and their PR spinners have Pacman Jones buying groceries for single mothers as if that changes anything. It doesn't with me but the Cowsheep droids are lapping it up like free cocaine.
dude, haven't you played that game in the locker room where you throw weights around like frisbies! come on!
Did you EVER hear some of things that were yelled at Patrick Ewing? Or Darrell Dawkins? Or Hakeem? Or David Robinson? Hell, I have been at games where I heard HOUSTON fans calling Elvin Hayes ni**er when he played here. Not once did they charge off into the stands like a madman. Words cannot hurt you unless you let them or unless they speak the truth. So which is it with Artest? I guess in your book that makes them "soft".
Artest got hit by a beer. I don't want him to pull that stunt again with the Rockets, but the original debate was who was crazier. Ron Ron!
When was the last time he was suspended for detrimental conduct? I'm not asking about fighting nor am I asking about being suspended for technicals received. The former hasn't happened since the Brawl and the latter probably hasn't happened in a while either (hell, even Kobe was one of the league leaders in techs last year IIRC). So what are people bringing up his past for? "Because history repeats itself"? Give me a break. What volatile acts has he done the past couple of seasons in Sacramento other than wanting to be traded?
I was/am super pumped about this trade, but I can still feel the OP on this a little bit... ... I mean, I never really hated Artest, but... I mean, it IS sorta hard to get behind a guy that has all these charges of domestic abuse and everything. I really hope someone can talk me out of feeling that way, though. Heh, this team is stacked, and I don't want to feel the least bit conflicted about it.
I think for people to say that they 'hate artest as a person' is plain and simply ignorant. You dont know him 'as a person'. All you know is the few things that the media puts out there that they can spin and try to make him look crazy. If you have actually read any articles on what artest is really like then you might gain a bit more of understanding as to why he acts the way he acts. I think everyone should go read the GQ article posted in the GARM which is really long but at the same time will offer you some much needed incite on to what Artest is really all about. Also who are you to judge anyone for anything. You can say you hate him for the way he plays, the crazy on the court Ron that used to get technicals and flagrants... but to say you dislike someone as a person WHEN YOU DONT EVEN KNOW HIM is asinine.
I don't care if he's a bad person. The cowboys are full of bad people. This gives us a little flame to the team.
People have to stop saying he's a bad person. Aside from the alleged domestic abuse ( alleged is the word here ), everything else merely suggests he's crazy and intense. Bad? Tim Donaghy was bad...Karl Malone was bad... okay?
Well said. Just think about this. We are adding Yao and Artest to a 55 wins team last year. Let me repeat, we are adding the best center and arguably the best defender in the league to our lineup this year!!! Anyone who's against this trade needs a head examination.
I clearly said that I know Artest will make this team better. it has nothing to do with that, it has to do with getting a person with bipolar disorder. the dude quit on the pacers, the team that literally went to battle with him and got fines and suspensions. he changed his mind about opting out within 12 hours of doing so. I guess I have a problem with cheering for a guy like that.
I've never been a big Artest fan, he is super talented and all but has consistently put himself before his teams. That being said, I think by atleast the mid point of the year the national media will realize that of all the options out there, Houston is the best team for Artest, once they get over there, "Oh no the Lakers didn't get him." Houston is the one team that he really can't implode. Players like Yao, Scola, and Battier care too much about winning to let Artest's personal life effect what happens on the court, remember this is a pretty good team even without Ron. Plus when you add in his history with Adelman its hard to deny that things worked out best for both parties.
Why wouldn't you be pumped? I just can't wait till we play the jazz in the reg. season. The best case scenario would be to play them as 2 vs 7 or 1 vs 8 seeds and sweep them. With artest manhandling harpring and making kryalinko burst into tears!
