Trying to get my first car at the end of the year. I'll be able to put down a couple stacks as a down payment and my credit is alright. Here's what I'm looking for:

    2009 or newer
    Max price of $20,000
    Max mileage of 60,000

Type: midsize or full size sedan, compact or midsize crossover or SUV, hatchback

Also, has anyone tried buying through Beepi or Carvana? I feel like I've looked at too many options. I follow the car industry a lot, but I'd like to get some input from my fellow CFers

Keep that 2k in your pocket unless it's TTL. Either they finance you or not.

I would, but I don't want so many hard inquiries on my credit report

Reddit has some great threads on this subject. Also, someone usually points this out, but be careful about buying a used car immediately after your city/state has seen major flooding.

They aren't hard inquiries for an auto loan.

Not sure of your location. My advice is to shop online first. You can haggle the price while sitting around in your underwear. In the past five years I have bought two used cars. One from http://www.motortrendsonline.com in Alvin and one from
http://www.durrettmotorcompany.com in Pasadena- South Houston area. Both are very reputable dealers with honest down to earth prices on quality used cars.

Avoid the small "SUV" in that price range.

If your credit is good you shouldn't have problems. They will screw you and put that 2k in pocket. Maybe you should try and get with a credit union 1st. You'll have some protection and just negotiate price.

You should consider a scooter - specifically, the brand this guy is driving.

Scooters are for kids. Get something that can leap over traffic.

Why not just lease and put the 2k towards that? Warranty, free service, lower payments. In that price range it's what I'd consider.

Honda Accord or Honda Civic. They seem to run forever, no matter how much you abuse them. Try to find one that hasn't been abused, though.

Had a Kia Forte for a lot of years. Very basic, no problems. Now I'm driving a Subaru Impreza hatchback (premium unlimited or something like that). I really liked all its features and interior for the price. Only complaint is it's a little loud on the freeway, compared to my wife's RDX. But I don't think you can go wrong for the price

If you get a Civic, make sure to check about the takata airbag recall.

Tesla Model S. Then work as an Uber driver. It pays for itself.

I'm enamored by the current generation Mazda6 (14-pres.). Thoughts? I've also looked closely into the VW CC and the Dodge Charger.
