No we can't. But what we are (and have been ) trying to tell you is that regardless of how many times the Rockets called Joe Dumars, Joe just didn't want to give up Cliffie and one of his younger bench players (like Zeljko, Memo and/or Hubert Davis) to match the ~$4m between Robinson & Rice.

Joe just had this thing about Sura being younger, more mobile, playing better D, and only having only 1 more year on his current contract and the Bird Righs transferring...can't imagine why, can you?

And Joe just didn't want to make Kelvin Cato the highest paid Piston for the next 3 seasons...not after signing Elden Campell for about half as much.

And $8+m/year over the next 4 years was a little too much for Joe to swallow to have Taylor backup Darko.

Perhaps you wanted CD to take that Cliff Robinson + Hubert Davis for Mobley and EGriffin deal that Dumars shot back at him...

Honestly, looking at the makeup of this Rockets team, taking into consideration their strengths, weaknesses, and apparent needs, I would take Glen Rice over Cliff Robinson.

I usually dont post...I just read what you guys write...but damn, I'm tired of the whining.

We have arguably the best young point guard in the game, the 2nd best center in the game, and ya'll are worried about keeping up with the rest of the west? I got news for you...I think that our talent is comparable to SA, and Minnesota....and The Lakers, and Mavs are going to Self-Destruct. IMO, the only thing holiding us back from being a contender, is discipline, and experience.

Van Gundy coming in is the biggest, and best move we can make. We have players who know, and like each other, but they lack discipline. We didnt need a blockbuster trade, we needed Van Gundy, and we got him.

Piatkowski, and Griffin are great moves that wont screw up the chemistry that we DO have. They are professionals. They are competent, they do their jobs well, and you never hear of any problems off, or on the court with them. If anything, they can lead they yonger players who act like they dont know any better, by example. I liked Posey, but I have a feeling that these guys are a better fit.

I dont know about ya'll but I'm good with the offseason we are having. It's exciting....

We have a new "no-frills" coach who isn't afraid to put his foot down and say "re-spect my author-i-tay!!!", 2 vets who can contribute at a low cost, a bigger Yao w/a better feel for the NBA, a more experienced and determined Francis, Eddie and Mo feeling the heat, and having to prove something, Boki getting a chance, Moochie needing to redeem himself, and Cat....is um.....Cat - a good 2 guard- our vinnie johnson maybe??? oh, and gothic uniforms, that are WAY better than pajama-like clown suits.

I think the Rockets are going to surprise a lot of people. Ya'll need to be easy....it's going to be allright!!!!

    THREE FO LIFE!!!!!!

That said, I agree with the rest of your post..thankfully people like jsha(Dunleavy's Special Friend)bang are not the GM of the Rox, and what they think about trading has no relevance to what the Rox are doing.

Rox will make the playoffs this year, guaranteed.

Anyone ever consider that, maybe, just maybe, the Rockets are happy with their roster and want to give JVG a chance to implement his system before going trade happy?

Mo Taylor is a more than decent player and maybe with JVG's coaching style he'll become more effective.... Same with Cato. Same with Eddie Griffin. Same with Cuttino.... etc....

Guys, 10 more wins last year and we make the playoffs. Let's see if JVG can get us over that hump this year.

Correction.. ONE more win, we would be in the playoffs last year... 10 more wins, we would have been seeded 5th or 6th!!! the rockets should be pretty sick last year.. I dont think you guys remmeber what Rice did for our team towards the end of the season.. he hit lots of clutch 3's!! won some games for us.. if we can have him do that the entire season for 20-25 minutes a game.. we will be A-OK.. hehe.. everyone.. take a breath!

I can't fathom how low the expectations are of the Rockets and how satisified so many people would be with a 8th seed quick playoff exit.

Last year we were 1 game behind the 8th seed (9th place) and the #7 seed lost their two best players in their history. If we don't make the playoffs in at least the 8th we had a disastrous (obviously regressive) year.

I am fine if we are not competive with the top 5 WC playoff teams in record, but if we don't make a run at the 6th seed and at least beat out Phx for the 7th seed (who we should have beat out last year except they showed more heart late in the season) that is a dissappointing year.

Shoot, we were rocking early last season when we were healthy and Yao was fresh--you saw a team that gave everyone trouble and with a future much sooner than we all thought. I think so many people are setting lower expectations than the Rockets should have because they don't want to be dissappointed. But for me, with Utah's decimation an 8th playoff spot and 1st round ugly sweep (or close to it) would not be encouraging.

Sorry Rocks Fans, its almost official.............................
Dunleavy will be next to Coach your Houston Rocks, The decision has been made and the announcment will come Friday or Saturday..........All the Van Gundy Thursday talk is just a smoke screen for contract leverage.....My cousin was his neighbor for 2 years and they have become pretty close......We had a big Party in Greatwood this weekend, and Steve and his crew stopped by to kick it.....Mo T and Mcdyess also showed up

Anyway they all got together and were talkin, so you know I had to be nosy and do my James bond impression and listen in to there conversation.......He said Dunleavy was the man they were goin to choose, and that CD and Les ran it by him 2 days ago and he actually felt it was a good decision

Hey he's not the GM of the Rocks so I can't say if its true or not but thats what I heard, He also said Eddie and Posey were trade bait to add another piece to make a run next year so stay tuned.......We have another Party in 3 weeks and you know your undercover reporter will be on the Job, I'll keep ya'll posted

    You heard it here first.......

    Holla Back!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi all,

This is my very first post ever though I've been a member for a few months now. Woohoooo!! I know a lot of people are getting a little restless...okay...maybe a lot restless with the lull of the off season. Like everyone else, I too can't wait for the new season. I won't say I'm full of optimistic about the new season, but I'm very excited and a little more open ended than some of you seem to be. I know given the Rox' recent history and the long summer months building up to the opening season, there's a huge chance for disappointment here. But I don't know...I kinda like the uncertainty; the many variables that come into play - new coach, new arena, major off season moves (mostly by other teams) shaking up the Western conference, the second coming of Yao, new unis, etc. That's just me though...we shouldn't hit the panic button yet and not give this team a chance.

I do agree that we need something done about the three spot. We need more size and atheleticism at the 3. Yet this is one of those uncertainties I was talking about. Who knows, maybe Boki or someone unexpected currently or suddenly acquired can fill that role perfectly. Anyway, hope to post more as the season comes along. BTW, anyone know of any good bars or hang outs to watch Rox games in and around Boston? [I didn't think so] Too poor to get NBA Direct and the Celtics suck.

something needs to be done at the three? rice, boki, piatkowski (sometimes plays the 3), griffin (sometimes plays the 3), and hawkins. we have enough 3s. now the 4... that's another story, but i don't think it's worth getting another to hear maurice and eddie pout all season. i say stay with what we have.

Playboy........lets not get carried away here..........

I don't understand why Everybody and they momma are callin the rocks a playoff team................

    NEWS BULLETIN

WE HAVE'NT MADE THE PLAYOFFS IN 4 YEARS.....HOW ARE WE A PLAYOFF TEAM????? PLEASE EXPLAIN THAT ONE TO ME

Plain and simple.....I'm sick of excuses why we didn't make the playoffs.......One year we were the best 42 win team ever not to make the playoffs, and if we were in the east we would be a high seed, and last year we only missed it by one game..............

Until we actually make the playoffs I don't want to hear that we are a plyoff team. PERIOD.

They is no need to reply and tell me we are because I'm from missouri....THE SHOW ME STATE at this point

The bottom line is we're all frustrated by our Rocks, We love our Rocks, We're all passionate about our Rocks(dont know if thats a good thing or not), and we all spend insane amounts of time on this board like we have no lives, voicing our opinions, and you know what I enjoy it????
    :D

I think we have some of the most informed and intelligent posters in the NBA bar none, and I love all you guys opinions, good or bad, I love this feedback........

    Bottom line

I LOVE YOU GUYS MAN:D :)

...if only we were in the EAST...

i agree, reality is our team has zero depth, it's gonna be another nail-biter to get the #8 spot unless they make some moves now.

    we need winners, not slackers!

    I love you too man!!!

No, seriously, I can't tell you how nice it is to hear from someone with some affability, humor, substance, and reality on this board. There are many with one or two, and even some with three of those qualities, but not many with all four. Welcome to the board and let's all "feel the love from jshabang" :) :) !!

(Dude, your sig makes me think of p*rn for some reason...;) )

Oh, and pettinati...It must be great to young, in love, and high on crack... ;) (just teasing dude). I appreciate optimism, but it sounds like you had one or two brews before typing that post!!

    I meant to do that!!!!!!!!!!!

No but seriously.......I hope we do anything.....it doesn't matter what...........any small trade would help tremendously......doesn't have to be a big blockbuster just something to solidify our 3 or 4

As of right now I'm truly scurrred.............:D

Any deal? Perhaps you mean any deal, so long as it is to Rox advantage.
