Its strange but I didn't feel nervous since I've been on TV before (not for cooking) and am used to being on stage. Watching the video though it looks like I'm bobbing my head a lot. I don't know whether that is a nervous tick or just that I'm so used to bobbing my head when I'm playing on stage.

Something to keep in mind if I'm ever asked back..

The host asked me about that, apparrently didn't make it on air, but I've never tried using diet coke and I'm not sure how well that would work for the carmelizing. My guess is that it wouldn't work very well plus I don't know what affect fire will have on the sweeteners in diet cola. They might break down and taste terrible.

I've never tried root beer but I'm sure it would work. It might taste a bit different. Otherwise I've used Pepsi and generic brand cola and they all seem to work the same.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback and please post back here anyone who tries the recipe and let me know how it turns out.

If it was basketball season I might've. Right before we went on air I was chatting with the host and he asked me how big the Chinese population is in Houston. I said, "Its pretty big with Yao Ming in there."
Yeah my name gets spelled all sorts of different ways. That's better than some. "Sishir" is correct.

I noticed that - you did a very good job (and it seems like an interesting recipe, actually made me hungry!). Just probably want to consciously avoid bobbing the head so much next time.

It may have been the guy "leading you". It sounded like you knew what you wanted to say and he knew what he wanted to say... and they sort of interfered ;) You did a great job though.. let us know if you do it again. I can always use a new good recipe.

It seemed like you were preoccupied with making the food taste right on top of being on TV. Didn't help that the anchorman was a skeptical Grill Master, but you won him over at the end!

That was a nice cooking clip.

Just in case you have toaster size oven, you can marinate chicken wings in Rocketsjudoka's way. Cola wings is quite popular in HK.

    Congratulations.

The anchorman seemed really obsessed about the realm of adjusting hotness, lol.

    rocketsjudoka,
that was really fun -- thanks for sharing, both the recipe and the experience.

I think you did TV very well, which is a very elusive and tricky thing. (Whether you did it before or not, it's difficult, especially being interviewed, or .. har har, "grilled.")

'Would it kill me? No. But um... no... Texas, Chinese, Ribs.' LOL
That's awesome, Sishir. Totally reppin it. You shoulda asked that lady when she'd let you tap it to see how she'd react. :D

He had told me beforehand that he was going to pepper me with all sorts of questions while I was preparing the meat. I don't think he was so much a skeptic just that they want us to have a continuous banter. Apparently previous people who have done this got so caught up in cooking and didn't talk enough.

He was intrigued enough by the recipe and had seen the finish product before we went on air so I had already won him over so that was just part of the shtick.

I've used root beer. Kind of nice additive if you're going for that KC-style taste.

I've heard you can try putting coffee on briscuit to tender it up the night before smoking, but I've never had the balls to try it.

    Thanks for the recipe.

I think if you are strictly using soda as a tenderizer for meat...then Diet Coke may be better than regular Coke because it has battery acid in it. ;)

Well...that's an exaggeration but I've seen a lot of cleaning and other uses for Diet Coke. Apparently, there are enough chemicals in it to make it quite versatile as more than just a drink. No telling what it does to the inside of the body. Unfortunately, I drink the stuff over regular sugar soda. Maybe it's cleaning my system of toxins? lol

Anyway, you did good. I watch "Top Chef" and they had to do this type of thing for a TV spot and they sucked at it. Either their recipes were too complex or they were so involved in getting the food right...that they couldn't keep up a conversation. You were able to do all the things to keep the audience engaged and interested quite well.

Once I heard you talk I figured out why my chinese is better than yours.
