Now, old on a second. The Soup Nazi very much so told elaine she is selfish....are you saying the Soup Commander has no ability to be a Nazi???

Besides, what if Elaine was 6'11 and from Nigeria...then the Soup Commander apparently could control her... Are you saying that a 5'4" b**** who is selfish about her hair is uncontrollable, as if Tex Winters could sit her on his lap and help her.

Elaine is the ultimate team player with a great attitude, i think the Soup Commanders authority is being threatened by his own desire to Command Muffin Tops and not just Soup!!!

The reality is all this crap is about perception and the perception is much more significant than reality...

It's simple-minded to hate all the hating on this BBS. We should be happy that there are a lot of angry fans here -- at least they still care enough to rant. That's a lot better than indifference, which is the sin Houston sports fans are most guilty of -- not negativity.

If the complaint is that the negative discussion is always about the same thing, never changing, without any variation, and without anything substantive that suggests improvement -- well, maybe it's because that pretty much characterizes the Rockets themselves.

Teams that don't respond to valid criticism, plus fans being discouraged from venting -- that's a recipe for fan frustration degenerating into fan indifference. And that sort of fan indifference is not bandwagoning -- that's a rational response.

You are right about that. Its also simple minded to hate the team, players and coaches.
No one has suggested that negative discussion, valid criticism or venting are bad,,, What is your point...?

What's my point? I think my point is quite clear -- regardless of your inability to get it. If you don't see what I'm trying to say -- and which I almost thought was a worthless truism -- then you must believe one or more of the following:
    • The so-called haters truly hate the team.
    • Few or none of the "haters" criticisms are valid.
    • They're ought to be limits on negativity.
    • If you've got nothing good to say, then don't say anything at all.
As for the first item, I'll go beyond calling it simple-minded -- and I'll go beyond decorum too -- and just say it's plain f**ing moronic. This also goes for the comment "it's also simple minded to hate the team..." Can't believe I'm bothering to say this, but the "haters" complain because they love the team -- they want it to do better, and they're tired of the same old stagnant crap, the excuses, and the rationalizations. I'm sure you'll find in a lot of the great sports cities with dedicated fans that there's a long tradition of "hating" that's an essential part of being a good fan. As for people here who truly hate the team -- and I mean truly hate the team, not just virulently criticize -- well, so what? There's no point in worrying about them.

Regarding the second item, you can't deny that a lot of the criticisms are valid: stagnant offense, lack of defense, no team play, selfish guards, constant excuses and rationalizations. Yes, some criticisms are simple-minded and unproductive ("Eddie sucks", etc.). But most of the recurring complaints are completely valid -- if anything, it's the proposed solutions that are usually pointless at worst, or unrealistic at best ("Fire Rudy", "Trade Cat", "Move Franchise to the 2", etc.). But that doesn't mean we should supress criticism, or banish it to a secondary forum.

As for the third item, I'll concede that the chronic negativity on this BBS can be overwhelming. But as I indicated in my original post, that's really not the fault of the haters. The team invites unending criticism by unendingly being guilty of the same sins. They haven't given much indication so far this season that things are changing for the better. Yes, it's early, but with the constant excuses and rationalizations, they've given us reason for skepticsm.

I'll grant that the GS game offers some hope, but I have some responses to this. First, let's see them sustain this over a few more games. Second, there's still room for improvement. Third, I'd like to think that the criticism (from fans, media, whatever) had some role in pressuring the team to change their ways -- and to keep getting better.

And regarding the last item, yeah, it would be nice if we saw some more productive comments out there. But as fans, providing solutions and answers isn't our job -- that's the job of the coaches and players. Again, if someone doesn't have anything productive to contribute, that doesn't mean they lose their God-given right as a fan to b**** as much as they want about their team.

So that's my point. What's yours? Would you rather me and the other "haters" act like "real" fans, i.e. suppress our complaints, and just stick with posts like "Go Team!" and "That's all right, that's okay, we're gonna beat them anyway!" Do we face excommunication from the Church of Unending Rockets Praise for blaspheming the Holy Trinity of Francis, Cat, and Rudy -- or maybe just banishment to the purgatory of a secondary rant forum?

excellent point. There's an unofficial rule in sports that I've always followed, which is that after winning a championship a franchise is exempt from questioning for 10 years. This includes all losses, questionable off season transactions, and pretty much anything stupid both on and off the field. The Rockets still have a couple of years before I begin my complaining.

Expectations are high and that creates volatile emotions with any game (especially after only 4 games). I'd say keep ALL the posts coming; we all ocntrol the powe to click or not click to another post or thread.

Thoughts from a fanatic since 1984.
