AS a Fan and registered members of this Forum it is our duty and privilage to be critical and or praising of our Team and Team Members. As BBS Rocket Fans we specak with love of our Team weather we praise or criticize them. I object to the use of FOUL LANGUAGE even when it is partially coded! It doesn't make us more manly , it often shows problems and limitations from our environment and upbringing, especially vocabulary limitations. If we use our minds a little more, we could find even stronger words ,to express our displeasure! One could do this without taking oneself to the level of Street People.
On the bright side, people are participating. In a negative way or not. The spreading of negative energy is a risk that any open forum has to take. Yes, people vent and people cheer. We can see all kinds of ironies around us everyday. I guess we all have to use our greatest judgement to determine what views/opinions are valid and what not. The fans grow as well as the team. But, after all, the fans must stay together and be supportive.
I know exactly what you're talking about Yetti...and I agree with you to some extent. I may have been born in July, and you more than anyone else probably expects this kind of post from me...but I'm not a real Leo and I don't have all those boisterous qualities I sometimes display. This forum just bugs me. I used to like it, now its getting kind of annoying, and it frustrates me to the point I lash out with as much stupidity as the reasons I even lashed out. Relativist, I like the idea of posting constructive negativity. I also like DrNuegebauer's injection of positivity with his "I'm excited" thread. But it looks to me from this poll that the majority of people here are frustrated from the way people act around here. This thread would have probably been best suited for the feedback forum, now that I look at it. I just wanted to initiate some feedback from the Rockets Fans' perspective that could maybe see everybody get a better understanding of what kind of fan each poster is. I, myself, am usually an objective fan if you go by don grahamleone's fan rule. That's what I would like to see more of; either that or a balanced amount of negative and positive type fans. Oh well. I'll quit my griping and just go back to the Hangout where I belong
That wasn't funny...but it was hypocritical. I'm just kidding with you A-Train. I wasn't directing this thread at you or your organization, so please don't take it personally. I tried to make my pointless post humorous, but I really couldn't because I was a little too upset to be funny at the time.
Dallas, give me a break already!!! Damn. As a 27 yr old ROCKET FAN, I and everyone else on this freaking site are entitled to say whatever the hell we want (well within reason)!!! I have earned that right. Not only as an sports fan, but as a true Rocket fan. They are my favorite sports team period... EVER!!! Win or lose!!! If they are not winning. If they are making it harder and harder to watch. Be it the players, the coaches or the freaking Rocket dancers (ok they're exempt). It doesn't matter. I have the right to b**** just as everyone else on this site. It goes the same for you and all the others like you that get their undies in a wad everytime someone is critical of the team! If you think that you are the only true fans just because you are blind to the obvious or just ok with watching the team look like $hit, then maybe you should check yourself! It is called a forum for a reason! Have a great day.
Wassup Big D? I'd like to clarify what I think you're talking about. I am turned off by all of the "XXX sucks" or "XX will never be any good" threads. I don't ever bother reading them because I know that they are posted by some teenager who doesn't know squat about what they are talking about. There seems to be a lack of intelligent conversation here. I'm not saying that you shouldn't criticize your team. I did that myself with my thread earlier, but I was making an asessment of the situation we have with Steve and Cat playing together. I wrote several reasons supporting my argument. I truely believe that it will be hard for the Rocks to gel with the guard play we have now. Whatever, its my opinion, but it is a thought out one. Contrast that to all of the "Yao sucks" threads. What? You have to be kidding me. He hasn't even been here a month, doesn't know the offense, has been playing all summer overseas, and rarely gets the ball thrown to him. I guess no one around here remembers Akeem in his early years. He had ways to get his shots, but nothing close to the moves he had in his later years. I guess we should try to enforce some sort of "no idiotic threads" BBS law. I like the Houston Texans website. If you come in there starting a thread that is total idiocy or saying something unfounded, you'll get badgered and most people will put you on their ignore list. The result is a very informative and intelligent place to talk about the Texans.
lol...no one can blame the Power Dancers! But yeah, people have the right to b**** all they want. As hypocritical as it is of me, that's what I'm doing. I'm behind my team just as you are, I'm just not one to like any type of negativity...especially about one of the things I'm most passionate about. You ever had a crappy car? I had a POS 1984 Mustang a few years back, and when people would say how crappy my car was, I would get all defensive and list off the literage, horsepower, cylinder count...even though I knew it was a crappy car. I get defensive about the Rox that way. I know they're having a crappy time right about now, but I have to defend them no matter how they might suck. I'll be the first to criticize, but if you tell me how they suck, I'll have to tell you why they don't and why you're wrong. Its just the way I do things.
Okay, nevermind...I should have just had you post this thread for me. That says it all Steve. Exactly what I mean. Thanks homie! PS, you tried houstonprofootball.com yet? Or are you on the Official Texans website? They're both pretty darned good.
How many people would support the creation of a Rants forum? That way, all of the people who want to rag on passing, Steve, Cuttino, etc could post there. The game action forum could return to game talk, plays, strategies, etc.
Well, I'm only calling out one person...Achebe. Dude...nice mindless vent. If Rudy can't coach an inside/outside game or teach how to get the ball to a low post center, explain to me why he is called the Soup Commander in China.
We are 8 years removed from our last championship, 4 years from our last playoff, last year was the worst in franchise history, our two highly touted rookies have produced next to zero, We have a gazzilion dolars of cap space tied into Moochies and Rices... Yes, we should only write "happy, shiny" things here. We should be thankful to our Great Leaders and never, ever, question their ultimate wisdom, talents and competence. Repeat after me: Yao is great, Nachbar is better than Rashard, Moochie is an All-Star, Cat is a genius, we are full of talent, Maurice is a bargain etc....
I love the idea...I love it. I also like rockHEAD's idea of making it where its only a relocated thread forum...or at least maybe a forum where rants get relocated to. But you should definitely bring this up in the feedback forum, I'm all for it and I'm sure everyone would be too. Heck, even I would participate in a rant forum from time to time. You have one vote on your petition Gutter Snipe.
The problem is that if you make a criticism of a player or anybody, people will fire back with personal attacks. That's what brings this, like any other board, down to the level of the pits. It comes down to respect. You can disagree with someone, but there should be an element of respect for someone's opinion. That requires thick skin and maturity, and unfortunately, you won't find that on a public forum unless the moderators instill a strict policy.
I don't like it here anymore... ...because of needless attacks, arguments with no foundation and the lack of humility among posters. Believe it or not, it's OK to admit that you may be wrong. I would probably physically fight some of you if we shared some of these views in person, but I'm a lover so back to the hangout. I feel ya DT, and join you in the short line.
some final thoughts: 1. There should be a ranting rating system--great idea 2. Booing is a fan's artful way of telling a player or team, the performance is an F. We get graded all through our life, including work and school. So, there is nothing wrong with complaining about poor perforance or lack of effort. 3. Personal attacks are not nice 4. This forum does have it's mindless ranting, but this is the system. Just like Free Press. We have to put up with some bad to get the good. There are some great posts and discussions here, but sometimes you have to weed through. 5. Everyone has an opinion. Agree or disagree, but do not attack the messenger 6. If you have a complaint, deliver a resolution to the complaint. For example: If you think that Eddie's Offense is inconsistent, deliver a post that explains how you would improve this consistency or what you would do as coach, gm, psycologist or fellow player. But, to get mad because he has no touch and makes bad decisions is not worth posting. 7. Do not read the site if you cannot stomach it. It is a choice. 8. If you feel the urge to post a purely negative, rant with no foundation--warn everyone, so we do not read it if we are feeling too much love 9. I think most people want the Rockets to succeed and, but do not know how to express their frustration when they lose. It is a love thing really. There is a fine line between love and hate. It is okay to lose games and not play well. It happens to every team. But, we have to accept that some do not handle their emotions very well and have to ignore it and move on.
What Relativist said. Anyone who's missed that thread should check it out. How about a forum called... "Trades and Tirades"?? I like reading good trade speculation, but it to often turns out to be an excuse to rant on a player or something. I liked the F.A.R.T.S. idea, because I want to see what this team can do. But I miss good trade speculation. The good NIKEstrad/Hottoddie stuff. Maybe you could combine the two.
Give peace a chance! I like the forum just like it is; it is entertaining, amusing, and fun. It is probably the best basketball forum anywhere. Some people on this board are better analysts and sportswriters than the professional sites. (including me, of course )
