that's classic!! but you can't expect to not have nostalgia, ric. we're all sorta coming to grips with this now that the texans honeymoon phase has passed. we're looking at the new girlfriend and remembering just how comfortable the old one was...the first one we fell in love with. of course she cheated, changed her name and is living with some redneck in Tennessee. but the old "her..." yeah..we miss her sometimes
yeah, sure - i mean, i pay for a chunk of web space to memoralize all of it; i obviously have fond memories. and you'll always have a special place in your heart for your first. but i don't miss 'em. not at all. it was a miserably-run franchise that caused far more heartbreak and disappointment than joy. don't let 12 years and gallons of water under the bridge obscure any of that.
My dad was an alcoholic, womanizing *******. But he was my alcoholic, womanizing ******* dad and even though there were times that he drove me nuts and caused a lot of pain, I still loved him and I miss him. I loved the Oilers and I miss them too.
I sincerely believed that the combination of Bud Adams and 41-38 had killed any interest in seeing the Oilers legacy continue. It's fine to hang on to memories, but the Oilers had to die.
One of the most choke- ridden franchises in the history of sports. I loved them...when they were here.
I hear guys my age talk about this all time on how they can't get into the texans. I think its more of them missing being a kid. I loved the Oilers growing up but I've gotten over the oilers they're dead.... Bob McNair spent what almost a billion dollars or what not to bring football back to our city hes earned the right to name the team anything he wants IMHO. Go TExans RIP Oilers
IIRC Bud didn't offer it to Bob and Bob didn't ask for it. It sucks the Oilers didn't catch on in Nashville. Bob probably wanted a fresh start and no one could blame him. The Oilers had a (luvable) loser history and people were angry at Bud. I remember reading a book on Oilers history. We used to be such badasses in the AFL. **** the Broncos, Chargers, Raiders, Jets, etc. WTF happened? OTOH, I believe the Browns were one of the NFL's original franchises and had a history of championships. We lost cause the columbia blue oil derrick is Houston. Hey Hey Jack! Cool website I just found: http://www.conigliofamily.com/Oilers.htm
I cant just get into the Texans as fully as I did the oilers. Watching the games as kid, going to the dome, etc. As much pain as they caused, it was our pain.
Exactly. I want the dome and the oilers back. I also wanted haywood jeffries, curtis duncan, drew hill, ernest givins, webster slaughter and Warren Moon back.
IIRC, the Oilers were last champions about 1962-3. They got blown out by the Raiders in 1967 and probably didn't make it back to contender status until the mid-to late-70s (with Pastorini battling those great Steeler teams) and then again with Moon (but never quite attaining the pinnacle). I went to some Oiler games at Jeppesen Stadium, Rice Stadium and the Astrodome all. Bob Talamini spoke at my pee-wee football banquet in 1965...
I was disappointed the Oilers left, but I honestly don't care now. When I think of the Oilers, I think of 1993. That helps me move on to the point where I simply do not give 2 s***s about them. The Texans are Houston's team now. Get used to it.
