Hell be a restricted FA after 2005-2006, assuming we invoke the team team option the summer before. At that time, he can either sign a long term deal, sign the one year tender and become a an UFA the following summer or negotiate a S&T.

So the soonest he can become an UFA, and walk without us getting compenstation is the summer of 2007, not 2008.

Not to take anything away from Rudy, but would Yao really want to go (back) to a lax situation where the inmates rule the asylum? Assuming Kobe is there, would he really defer to Yao?? Would Rudy really stop Kobe from doing whatever he wants?

RUDY: "Kobe. Give Yao the ball."
    KOBE: "Ok, coach."
[Kobe takes the ball coast-to-coast and scores on a 3-on-1 fadeaway jumper.]
RUDY: "Kobe. What did I say? GIVE YAO THE BALL!"
    KOBE: "Will do, boss man!"
[Kobe drives the lane and dunks over 2 defenders.]
RUDY: "Kobe, pass the ball to Yao or else."
    KOBE: "Sure thing, ace."
[Kobe uses Yao as a diversion, stops at the arc, and pops a trey.]
RUDY: "... ... Good job, Kobe! Uh, way to go, team!"

It was my impression that Yao didn't like Rudy T's system too much. If he wasn't standing around watching Steve and Cuttino dribblemania, he was isolated in the post without many options but to put up a shot, even if it was forced.

Its wayyyyyy to early to be worried about this subject.
Plus IF this T-Mac thing pans out like every is hoping i dont think Yao will want to go any where. He will get more money here and if the team is winning who the hell would want to leave? Well maybe if your Koby B. u will want to leave but i still dont think he will be.

See, we shouldn't be even talking about this. It makes the franchise look weak. We're not Orlando, we're Houston. Our stars don't leave. They stay and win championships and attract other star free agents.

You think like a wimp, and you'll get treated like one. This franchise is a winner. Yao would be crazy to leave.

I hope after a few more years of good ol' American consumerism Yao will realize he is getting raped by the Peoples Republic and won't want to take it from the Peoples Republic of California too.

I know he has been indoctrinated into the faux-communist system but the longer he is away from it the more he will realize he can do more good for the people of China by directing his funds through his own charitable foundation than through the heavily lined pockets of the old beared men of Bejing; or the corporate theives in Sacramento for that matter.

If the Rockets treat there most Prized Asset the right way, i doubt he'll be going anywhere!. Also if him and T-mac hit it off i could see these 2 guys being together for a long, long time!

Aside from money/salary cap/contractual obligations, all of which would keep Yao with the Rockets, why would he want to go to LA? TMac is at worst at the same level with Kobe, younger and supposedly has less of an ego problem while Yao will be playing with players he's been around with here in Houston and HATES ATTENTION he would no doubtly get in LA. So why would he bother going anywhere at all?

This whole thing is nothing more than a Faker orgasm.

Freedom is a very powerful thing. I would not go as far as to say it's impossible. But at this point, all evidence indicates he is loyal to the Rockets. So why worry about it.

Agreed. This is just a lot of wishful thinking on the part of Laker fans. Yao should stay with the Rockets especially if they show continued improvement toward being a contender. For what it's worth, the same things were said about Duncan going to LA once his rookie contract expired and we all know how that turned out.

Okay thanks, my math was fuzzy on that one. Anyway, 2007 is still three full seasons away. Nothing we have to worry about now.

We better keep Yao's bud, Boki, whether he can play or not.

Loyal to what? Les Alexander? A head coach that insiders indicate he merely "puts up with"? Over the last thirteen months, this organization has shown no loyalty to anybody, and indeed has gone the other way, emphasizing "its a business" above anything and everything else.

There is a very real possibility that T-Mac will be a rental (albeit a long-ish one), and 2-3 years down the line the organization will have no Yao, no TM, and have to rebuild from the ground up.
