If want to change your status to being a legal entity in the US, you can either be a permanent resident(green card holder) or a naturalized citizen. There is a huge difference between the 2. Things that I can think of from the top of my head:

Naturalized citizen:
1. VOTE
2. Run for office except for the presidency
3. Travel using a US passport (which allows you to seek the US embassy's assistance when traveling overseas)

Permanent resident
1. Temporary status and needs to be renewed every X number of years
2. Not allowed to stay for more than 6 months outside of US
3. Can be deported if you commit a crime
4. Allowed to travel in and out of the US but you will be using your original country's passport. This means you have to apply for a Visa. If you have a US passport, most countries will allow entry without Visa requirements.

 

We already are paying for their medical care..... so......

 

They DO pay taxes, but they do not get the benefit of social security, eventhough they pay into the system.. they also pay sales taxes as well.....

 

I have a tough time understanding how a the state can criminalize a person being in a particular place.

 

With the quickly spreading influence of the the NARCO cartels I have NO problem with anyway to track illegal aliens.

Can't they get this in their own country? except for American assistance but would their country have a similar embassy?
Since the context of my response was about benefits.. Would you rather request assistance from 3rd world country embassy or the US?

That you and I pay for, right? Deportation also means that you can no longer enter the US legally.
I simply made the distinction between permanent residents and naturalized citizens because people talk as though they are one and the same.

Have you ever applied for a tourist visa? If your American, most likely the answer is no. It is not as easy as people think. If you do not have a US passport, an Alaskan cruise would require you to have both American and Canadian visa.

So they would be willing to wait if they couldn't a driver's license, but now that they can get that, they will skip the line?

Why would having an Illinois driver's license help prevent you from a federal deportation? The two have nothing to do with each other.

 

If Republicans really wanted to get serious about stopping the flow of immigrants across our borders they would do what works - tanking the economy. Net undocumented immigrant flow was at a net zero as of 2011; just as many left as came to the country. I propose that Republicans pursue stringent austerity measures slashing government spending and chaining it to 10% of GDP to drop us into a double dip recession. Once we've eliminated the pull factors of jobs, the problem of undocumented immigrants will right itself naturally.

OMG until a few years ago IIRC about 20 yrs ago it was routine for those without documents to get TDL's in Texas.

We all know how unbearable the state was then..

It is so sad when you have the Fox brainwashed folks panicking without any sense of even relatively recent history. So easy to mislead them.

 

This is awesome, there shouldn't even be such thing as illegal immigrant's in the first place though. America should have no right to say these people can't live among us, they are humans, we are no better then these "immigrant's", everybody should have the same rights, and not be label'd aliens for being foreign. Which, almost all american's are how many of you are full blood american indian who has lived on the american land before "america" even existed? All men are created equal and should have equal rights, right?
