What part of "illegal" do they not understand? I guess it's appropriate considering it's the same people that say they don't want you to own firearms.. yet it's ok for illegals to have drivers licenses? Wtf is in the water up there?

Not sure how the Supreme Court can allow this.

I know in other states undocumented workers somehow had licenses, but this was back in 2006...not sure how the law has changed since then. I do think illegal immigrants should have some form of ID or something, just for tracking purposes. Everyone should be on the grid...it's just better for law enforcement.

Interesting that the card will say "not valid for identification".

Yeah I don't know about that. If you want to be equal and have the rights and privileges of an American then you kind of have to be an American.

Wouldn't this open you up to deportation?

LOL Haters gonna Hate. No one is going to mess with Hispanics right now, they are the most important group to both political parties right now. Hispanics are going to get whatever they want. All Americans are Illegal to Native Americans yet we still have rights.

Firstly, for people who think only Dems got this passed:

    And secondly:

Uh so those eligible will have a passport, lease, utility bills, lived in Illinois for minimum 1 year and are still illegal immigrants?

I think it's because they don't have a social. The govt won't give them an SS because an illegal immigrant is usually paying into the system with a shared legit number, but won't claim the money.

Why would people be opposed to this?

The illegal immigrants are going to be there regardless (state police don't enforce immigration law). Would you rather have them be documented or undocumented?

Pretending they don't exist doesn't help fix anything.

Would that be better or worse than 11 million illegals going to the emergency room and stiffing us legal and insured with the bill? But then that's accepting your premise as true, which it is not.

I sort of agree with this. If the costs are acceptable, then the bigger issue to me is getting everyone on the grid. I hate the idea of having illegal aliens being like ghosts. It only helps the seedy underworld of cash, non-taxing, crime...it's just bad. I think we can tackle the immigration issue and still should be able to govern those who are here. It's a duty, and not for their sake, but for the sake of our own safety. The only two drawbacks here are the cost issue and the slippery slope towards legitimization issue. I think the benefits to society outweigh the cost (realized and unrealized).

Will they have to give their address? What would stop cops from going to their house and deporting them?

Getting everyone 'on the grid' sounds scary.
Almost like you want to track everyone's movements all the time

Not to derail but . .. would you be against microchip implantation?

I think it is against the law for the law to enforce that law
I think you need to be a special kind of law to enforce that law
but the special kind of law will not have access to the information the regular law has . . . ..
