I’ll ask the question a different way..

What proof is there that committing vast amounts of money and effort to build a wall, is the best way to spend resources for border security?

The Chinese could probably answer that question best :).

There's "proof" that the existing fence helped, it makes sense that a legit wall would help even more.....but that's not really relevant, why not just look at it this way, it's how you get an immigration deal done. Democrats weren't concerned about the billions in pork that they had to add to the Obamacare bill in order to bribe fellow Democrats to go along with it, why would they let a border wall prevent immigration reform that they allegedly want?

Which is a completely different set of circumstances than the US - Mexico border. So no.

This is an ironic answer since 1) we're not trying to stop a hostile invading force and 2) the cost of the great wall was untold amounts of human death and suffering.

Once again to the pro-wall people: if your aim is to reduce crime and improve the economy, this will not help either of those causes.

"Best" way or "only" way? I want to make sure you actually know what you are asking.

The goal is to make it more difficult for people to enter the country illegally via the southern border and a wall, along with other methods of surveillance, would do that.

There are plenty of ways to spend money, so is a wall the best option for the proposed amount of money. Not being argumentative, just truly curious.

what about a wall 700 ft high and made out of ice? ain't no latter going to get over that. From what I've been told by people who know much more about this than I do, believe me, the ice part could present some problems.

Moot point since we already have a wall in various sections.

It seems overhauling the visa system and holding employers heavily accountable is far more cheaper and effective than a wall. But you could always throw in drones and surveillance in weak spots along the thousands of miles of desert and rugged terrain that makes up the southern border.

Remember, the US and Mexico trade hundreds of billions of dollars of goods hauled by truck drivers, trains, and ships. There's too many legal and illegal physical entry points, into the US to rely on The Wall to do much.

    Less guns = less deaths.

    Bigger wall = bigger deficit.

It wasn't meant to be a shot at you, I know you weren't interjecting a counterpoint.

My post was aimed at the other folks here who think that is a legit example.

    1. Change the expense and time-consuming bureaucracy involved in getting a green card and valid citizenship.
    2. Prosecute those that hire illegal immigrants and make the punishment severe.
    3. increase drone and surveillance around the border.
    4. Adjust our "war on drugs" policies.

I think this point right here definitely needs to be addressed. These construction contractors, lawn companies, etc hire these guys for nothing and the companies keep the profits. That is just pathetic and should NEVER be allowed to happen. Yet it is happening everywhere and nobody really does **** about it.

Chicago is in a state that borders states that have far less regulations in terms of firearms and hence since there araren custom agents at state borders, you can see where I'm going with this .
