I say the Clipper losses are a statistical anomaly. We're supposed to beat inferior teams like the East and the Clippers. We're beating these inferior teams at 77% rate. Pretty good. (23-4 vs East + 1-3 vs Clips) Just happens that 3 of our 7 losses vs inferior teams happened to come against the Clips. Just a statistical anomaly. I'm stretching, I know. I BELIEVE! GO ROCKETS!
You did not say "in some cases"... you simply added a footnote there to a previous statement. I can understand that -- it's called, "THERE IS AN EXCEPTION TO EVERY RULE". As in the Blazers... The Blazers, unlike the Rockets, could possibly afford 3 losses to the Clips, despite the fact I said no playoff team could. An elite team generally takes care of business against the bottom feeders, but guess there are rare cases such as this one (this is assuming the Blazers lose at home to the Clippers on Monday)... However the Blazers are also 2-1 against the Lakers. 3-1 against the Jazz. 3-0 against the Rockets. 1-2 against Sacramento. The Rockets, in those matchups, are 1-13. By trying to find an exception to my rule, and using the exception as a team like the Blazers, who are virtually a lock for the playoffs, you're ignoring the fact that the Blazers have more than made up for potential losses to the Clippers. The Rockets have not, East record aside, and thus can't afford to lose 3 out of 4 to one of the worst organizations in all of sports. If anyone wonders why our West record is so terrible (the Clippers and Rockets have virtually the same record against Western Conference teams), look no farther. Also, I have not given up on the playoffs, but this was a big blow... the Rockets have to pass the Timberwolves, not tie them for the 8th seed. They're 3 back in the loss column, so with 13 games to go they have to make up 4 games. PS. If the Blazers lose a third time to the Clippers (a HUGE "if"), do you think they would want to face them in the playoffs? Or would they want to face the Rockets, who they are 3-0 against? Granted I'm sure they follow your "regular season matchup records mean nothing" theory... ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Frustrating. Just reaffirms that we should get rid of Walt and Cato. Also, I am not sure about what to do with Shandon - considering the way he is playing right now, are we still obligated to be "loyal" to him and fork over a lot of money soon? Anyway, regarding the playoff hunt, as long as there is a chance, let us try to not give up hope completely. Hopefully we can get back into the race if the Timberwolves lose a couple in a row or so.
I'm tempted to actually go through this thread... any post that garners over 120 responses in less than 10 hours may be good. Yeah, what's up with Clutch doing a bouncing ball brabble in a ZRB thread. thx Rocketman95...this thread sucks jamcracker's toejammie.
TO PARAPHRASE CARTMAN SCREW U GUYS!!! WE'RE GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS!! Rocket RIVER  ------------------
That's a good example. I didn't think of that one. Well, in that case, if I were Portland, I would much rather play the Clippers than the Rockets. And I'd think that some of those better teams that we haven't won against but have lost to the Clippers (Kings for example) would feel the same way. I guess we have to just agree to disagree here. ------------------ "We're not settling for just getting in the playoffs." "We want a higher seed. There's no doubt. oh, end the pain please The Cat. A real Sunshine ass would forget this game...move on with us, it is FRIDAY! Come On "The Cat", we need your Karma. Let this bouncing brabble deflate. WWBD [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited March 23, 2001).]
HP, That's fine, I'll move on. It just gets very tiring listening to the Rockets get undeservedly bashed and to be written off after one game. I'm out of this thread on that note, except if I'm asked a question by someone. ------------------ "We're not settling for just getting in the playoffs." "We want a higher seed. There's no doubt. Reading threads like these after a tough loss makes me more sick to my stomach than the actual Rocket's loss. Don't you guys realize that there is a very distinct line between the sunshine asses and those who are more pessimistic? Neither is going to bring the other to the their side after a loss (after a win, sometimes). Instead, you have posters who have proven their intelligence time and time again getting their intelligence questioned by others who should know better. And this was not even a thread bashing Tweak! ------------------ "Any event, once it has occurred, can be made to appear inevitable by a competent historian." Lee Simonson

Written off after one game? I think I made it clear I haven't given up, but this was a big blow -- it's not surprising though you would write off anything you don't like as "bashing". "The Cat: Defender of all Sunshine Asses against Reality and Logic." I choose to ignore Reality and Logic. There's only 13 games left. Enjoy them. Pretend we have playoff hopes.
I was not speaking to you Clutch... I was speaking more to those saying they are ashamed of being a Rockets fan and how we would not make the playoffs. Saying the Rockets have no idea how to rebound from losses, saying they have the heart of an average team, saying they suck, saying the playoffs are over after one game, calling the Spurs win a fluke... to an extent that is bashing in my book. If that reality is that the Rockets suck after one loss, that the playoffs are over after one loss, and every time a team wins 3 games from someone else they are a clearly better team, then yes I guess I'll take the title of defending against that version of reality. ------------------ "We're not settling for just getting in the playoffs." I think this loss could be a blessing in disguise. As I recall the last time the Clipps beat us we got our act together. When last has this team done anything the easy way? If we miss the playoffs we can always try to trade Cato to China as compensation for Yao Ming ------------------
Right now, we're 38-31, seven games over .500. If we go .500 the rest of the way, I'd consider the season a success. If we end up 10 games over .500, going 46-36 (8-5 the rest of the way), this season is a definite success, playoffs or not. This team has room for improvement, but we've seen what they're capable of-being the very best. Turnovers are down, Mobley has emerged as quite possibly one of the best pure scorers in the league. The chemistry on this team off the court is NO QUESTION the very best in the league. The team reputation is great. We have our future superstar. Anyone who thinks that if we don't make the playoffs we're out of the running for Webber is crazy. Going 41-41 and missing the playoffs didn't hurt the Magic from grabbing Hill and McGrady and inches away from Duncan too. Any other year, any other conference, 7 games over .500 makes the playoffs fairly easily. This franchise has accomplished so much this year-bonding as a team, getting a new stadium. This IS a playoff team THIS year, that got stuck in the wrong place at the wrong time. No other team have their top 2 players in their 2nd and 3rd year are even close to where we are. The reality is, even if we were to make it, the odds of going anywhere will be tough, and an uphill battle. Steve and Cat and the rest of the group will be even hungrier next year, and don't you think that with the great staff we have, and maneuvering room we have cap wise Rudy/CD will surround them with the types of players that will thrive off their style? And another offseason, this time with no Olympic commitment, won't help Rudy further bring along this offensive system? And giving Francis 2 sniffs away from the playoffs won't make him want it that much more? Besides, next year, Collier will be healthy. ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
