Lin gets a lot of hate on here, because for many he just "sucked" last year. Couldn't shoot, didn't have enough assists, had "9 TOs" a game, played no defense. I'm just wondering what people reasonably want Lin to do this year, stat wise, knowing Dwight is here and knowing how ball dominant Harden will continue to be... What does he need to do in order to avoid the controversy of whether he played upto expectations?

My issue with Lin isn't his stats, it's that he struggles against good defenses and plays timidly. If Lin doesn't get started early he seems to struggle. His defense was suspect at times to be kind as well.

If Lin can up his jump shot percentage, that will be the biggest thing he van do to be a part of the Rockets. When you play next to Harden and you got DH down low, Lin has no excuse for shooting less than 40% from the 3 point line. If he can manage that for the season, and it's possible for sure, than I'll definitely be a backer of his.

Fair enough we shall see. 40% on threes. Sounds like shooting threes has already been his number one off season priority.

I'm not a hardcore Lin fan but I do like what he brings overall. I have a good feeling he'll improve dramatically for next season but I'm afraid LOF will say "see I told you he was the GOAT while LOH say "his numbers are inflated because of Dwight and Harden." Regardless this is a team sport at the end of the day and if we're winning...heck we're one win closer to the chip.

Regardless, Lin and Harden will have virtually the same job next season ... feeding the ball to Dwight in the post ... waiting for the kickout pass for a spot up 3.
Inside out. That's how Dwight wants it. He's not a fan of the PnR play.

Is it something he could do? Or something his fans could do?

In one other thread his fans predict he will average 9 assists with Howard. What do you think happens if he doesn't meet that expectation?

Alot of his fans also predict he will average 20+ points and a ton of assists or somewhere along those lines if he was the primary scorer and ball handler on another team.

Can you really blame just the "haters" when his fans on this board are equally or more responsible for the hype and expectations surrounding him? Especially when failure to reach these expectations are very often shifted to someone else either directly or subtlely?

Maybe you shouldn't preach about people hating on Lin. You should preach about reducing the expectations of Lin coming from both fan and critics. Treat him like an all star and he gets criticized like one.

40% on threes will make him top 10 of PG in that category...

He would be darn good at 38% already...

Sorry but he needs to be top 10 of PGs in that category, if not top 5 if he wants to stay on this team. He doesn't need to be stephen curry but 40% is more than reasonable.

No, with 38% and his play making, especially pnr with Howard, he can stay on this team just fine.

40% 3 point shooting is the bar for Jeremy Lin to survive as a Rocket. The only other skill McHale values is his passing, but he already gets 6 assists a game so there's not much improvement there to be had. McHale also values defense and high energy - not Lin's strengths.

So yeah, you better hope he hits that mark or your boy is in trouble. Just sayin'

If we don't have Howard, I agree with you, with Howard, Lin's AST will go up for sure. He will greatly benefit from Howard's presence, so will Harden.

If Lin Shoots 40% and lessens his TO per game, he will be severely underpaid lol

he will be on the jose calderon level @ age 25... other teams will try to pry him of the rockets... will over pay at least 10m per year...

Who else shoots 40% on the Rockets? Why is his bar so high? And even if he did get 39-40%, you know the bar's gonna get moved right.. Sigh~

Defense and energy are Lin's strengths. He's the one pushing the tempo. I like the TD/Bev style of defense to a degree, but I also enjoy Lin's defense as well.

Can't say I really agree with you. If he stays around 37% from 3 that will be more than fine. 40%+ would be unbelievable. As far as assists go I think he improves by around 1 per game just based on Howard's hands vs Asiks hands. Lin and Harden both will benefit from Howards ability to not only catch but finish without being blocked at the rim.

I will say I'm not as high on Lins one on one D as some seem to be, but as a team defender I think he is more than adequate. And again a defensive player of Howard's caliber will only make everyone's D look that much better.
