Depending on when he comes back, couldn't this take Amen out of the running for an All-Defensive Team selection? He's played 60 games, needs 65. Bummer.

    All-Defense > Triple Double.

That seems pretty likely at this point, since we only have 5 weeks of basketball left. He would have to be back in about 3 weeks which seems pretty fast for an injury where they immediately slapped a boot on him.

    Highly unfortunate if so.

Yes, I understand being a previous player himself and seeing Amen wanted to get that last rebound, but he should have been more vigilant knowing that Amen was the last healthy point guard on the team, and this is a critical time of the season. He should have never taken the risk. It’s devastating because Amen is the most important player on the team.

Yeah before Amen, he was doing this to FVV too, keeping him late in blowouts against scrubs. Watching this team and watching the Celtics, it's pretty clear Udoka can only be a bridge coach and they need a Mazulla to truly get the most out of the talents on the team.

No, I wouldn't praise him. Amen's minutes have been insanely high lately even after Jabari returned from injury. Part of the reason is because they've had so few blowouts in the last couple months due to their lousy play. So finally you have one and yet you still leave him in there in the 4th quarter?!

Mazulla is a child that inherited a team Ime built. He deserves almost no credit for what the Celtics have done. Milk Hair would navigate that team to a title.

If no structural damage, I'm guessing 2-3 weeks from looking at the injury.

Dude has been averaging 38 MPG the last 2 months. All of his minutes are high energy on both ends too.

Some of it is due to necessity with FVV being out and a lot of close games. So we finally have a game completely in hand knowing we're already 2 PG's down...and he still f**king plays 33 minutes.

Just soo f**king stupid, incomprehensibly short sighted.

This is how I feel as well. Ime has been annointed as a great HC, but isn't this just his 3rd season in the role?

Ime learned a VERY valuable lesson last night in his journey to becoming a winning/great HC--injury risk mitigation is extremely important--especially the deeper you get into the season.

With FVV and now Reed out, we didn't need to expose our only remaining PG to additional risk. This is where the staff should have also played into the decision--someone should have told Ime, "Hey boss we got this, let's get these guys some rest and give the bench some more time."

As a fan, this absolutely sucks because I was enjoying Amen's growth and sporadic dominance in games. As a player who destroyed my ankles, I absolutely feel for Amen and I'm disappointed that no foul or review of this play was called. This kind of sh*tty officating needs to be reported to the league for player safety sakes.

Luckily we have a deep bench, but no floor general is going to hurt. Running the offense through Alpi and Adams may help, they're both such great passers.

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

    This explains years. Thank you.

Brad Stevens built that team and Udoka was also one of the youngest in the NBA when he inherited it and went exactly 1 playoff series further than Stevens. I can't believe that didn't even occur to you or you've thought about some whimsical way to rationalize that. Mazula actually made changes when he took over, he knew exactly what they needed and what to do and it wasn't effort. Udoka barely touched the roster when he took over. If you wanna talk about bandwagoning, you missed the wagon. Mazula achieved the 2nd best defense and the 1st offense. Udoka achieved the 1st defense and the 9th offense. If Mazula is just running what Ime built, Mazula runs it flat out better. Now try to weasel your way out of saying Udoka built something that the youngest coach in NBA history ran better than him. Twice.

The guy who wins it all is not like the guy who had the right idea but couldn't execute or sell it. We don't want the Mark Jacksons, the Don Cheneys, Van Gundy's, Thibodeaus of the world. We want the Kerr, the Spo, the Rudy T's of the world. We're not trying to live out whatever fantasy you have about some unique super rare style of winning, we actually want to win it and don't care how we win it. We don't care if we have to get someone unimaginative to build the foundation then let a charismatic visionary who can inspire the troops take over. That's the winner. The winner is the winner, obviously. That's the thing that's hard to find. No one cares about the first guy but you. The first guy - there's a half dozen of them b****ing and moaning about softness at their ESPN job. We can pick one of those up as assistants any time.

Get that loser mentality out of our totally opposite franchise please. Ime can't be a defense-only coach, it's a dead end. Net rating is offense and defense. We're maxed out on clapping, effort and defense. The universe gave him one of the best defensive rosters in the world and they have a super hardworking and aggressive character. He has everything he ever wanted on that side of the ball. He hasn't made 0.1% improvement on Silas' offense. Nevermind Joe f*ckin' Mazula who's tactical brain is being studied by coaches from other sports.

There's only two outcomes for Ime: he shows he can coach offense and or he lets Stone finish him.

Totally disagreed.....dude is an offensive mind only behind Atkinson, Daigneault.....

More like Udoka leaned on him and Will Hardy.

Mazzulla is pretty young ..... he is 36 right now and Lebron is 40.....and Udoka is 47.

Mazzulla can and will get even better. Making mistakes at that age is pretty common.

Amen getting hurt because he was out there chasing meaningless stats really stings

we need to stop glorifying triple doubles, especially when his would’ve been 15, 10, and 10…a 15 point triple double is not something worth chasing

a 40+ point triple double is impressive

A 15 point one? He shouldn’t have been out there

I'm an Udoka guy. Love him as a coach. Having said that, he's terrible about running guys into the ground. This was probably one of the biggest mistakes he's ever made. Hopefully he will learn from it!
