Grok says he will be out for 4-6 weeks:

Based on the available information, estimating how long Amen Thompson will be out due to his recent ankle injury involves some speculation, as the exact severity is not yet known. However, we can make an informed guess using the details provided and general knowledge about ankle injuries.

    What We Know:

    • Injury Details: Amen Thompson left a game after landing on another player’s foot, injuring his ankle. He was later seen using a walking boot and crutches, which suggests the injury could be significant. An MRI is scheduled for tomorrow to determine the extent of the damage.
    • Past Experience: In 2023, Thompson had a Grade 2 ankle sprain during the Summer League, which sidelined him for 3-4 weeks.
    • Current Context: The use of a walking boot and crutches indicates this injury might be at least as serious as his previous one, if not more so.
Typical Recovery Times for Ankle Injuries:

    • Mild Sprain (Grade 1): 1-2 weeks
    • Moderate Sprain (Grade 2): 3-6 weeks
    • Severe Sprain (Grade 3): 6-12 weeks or longer
Given that Thompson is relying on crutches and a walking boot, the injury is likely in the moderate to severe range (Grade 2 or higher), as these aids are typically used when weight-bearing is difficult or painful.

    Estimating Recovery Time:

    Considering the following factors:

    1. Severity Indicators: The walking boot and crutches suggest a recovery period longer than a mild sprain, pointing toward at least a 3-6 week timeline.
    2. Previous Injury: His Grade 2 sprain took 3-4 weeks to heal, providing a baseline. However, this new injury could be different in severity.
    3. Team Approach: The Houston Rockets may adopt a cautious stance with Thompson, a young and valuable player, potentially extending his recovery to ensure he heals fully.
Based on these points, a reasonable estimate for his recovery time is 4-6 weeks. This range accounts for a moderate to severe ankle sprain, aligns with his past recovery from a similar injury, and factors in a potentially conservative rehabilitation plan by the team.

    Important Note:

This estimate is speculative since the MRI results, which will clarify the injury’s severity, are not yet available. If the MRI reveals a milder injury, he could return sooner (e.g., 1-3 weeks). Conversely, if it’s a severe sprain or involves additional damage (like a fracture), recovery could extend beyond 6 weeks.

    Final Answer:

Amen Thompson is likely to be out for 4-6 weeks, based on the current signs of severity and typical recovery times for similar ankle injuries. However, this is an estimate, and the exact timeline will depend on the MRI results and the Rockets’ medical evaluation. We’ll know more after tomorrow’s scan.

Seems perfectly reasonable to criticize Ime for leaving the guy who's been playing the most minutes by far in the game for such a silly, arbitrary reason

Honestly, it almost seems worse, it's not for some consistent reason that has to do with Ime's approach to basketball--"players should play hard and play big minutes"--he clearly knew he should take the starters out. It's literally just to pump up an arbitrary stat that people like because we have a base-10 numerical system

Unless he ends up being the all-time leader in triple-doubles by 1 game, nobody gives a sh*t how many Amen got in his second season in the league, honestly.

That's the only real thing that matters right now.

Even though this team isn't an actual title threat, playoff basketball is a different beast and playoff failure is pivotal for future playoff success. If he misses out on that because he was playing absolutely meaningless minutes, yeah, it's a major, major f**k up.

We might fall into the play-in now, but at least that's better than last year, lol. Honestly, I'd rather just play OKC than the Lakers in the first round.

That's reasonable and I don't have any issues with that. I'm just saying for me, he likely left Amen in there for Amen. He probably wanted the triple-double. Ime left his starters in too long and that's on him. I just think there's an unselfish angle here when he finally benches everyone but leaves Amen in to get one extra rebound.

But I can understand the view of Ime needing to save Amen from Amen. And it's brutal all the same.

Sucks, but it’s okay. We’re in the easy part of our schedule until the last 4 games. I think even if its a month long injury we can sustain.

I am still pissed off, it is not like Amen gets some extra $$$ on his contract for triple doubles...this was completely meaningless......and getting a Triple double - taking that risk when you are up 33 and he is the most important piece on the team.

This was flat out STUPID coaching.....no other way around it....

Ime is supposed to be the adult in the room - players are gonna want to play, he has to see the bigger picture....this was just horrible on his part.
