Reporting in from Brenham, TX. Had enough this morning and took 290 to the nearest motel. Happily, it was only an hour away. Best $70 I ever spent. Our place was okay. A bit of the house broke off and broke my girlfriend's car window, but we're getting rid of that car anyway. My hat's off to those of you sticking around Houston without power. I couldn't take it anymore.
We made it! We're staying in Sugarland with my fiance's brother since they have power. Our backyard fence is gone and some slight roof damage. Parents house is fine but stupid looters hit next door. They have been looking for ice and found ice at their HEB store. I'm hoping we get power back soon. This sucks.
Ohh, I live in Waller. Live on 5 acres and have about 7 tree's down. None hit the house. Alot of branches and trees down. Everything safe though.
Here, unscathed and have power, internet etc. Rita was much worse, but I was on the dirty side of that storm.
Checking in. Power is out at my place, been hunkering down with family at my aunt and uncles. We have a family friend who works for the power company and he told us during Rita that my Uncle's house draws power from an importan relay station that is one of the first ones to be turned back on. So we've had power since yesterday morning here. The water went down a bit but overall it's been so good that I hadn't realized how bad it's been for others.
After the power has been flickering for the past 3 hours. I'm finally back up A bit of roof damage and some leaks.
So I'm here in Toronto and apparently the remnants of Ike have made it up here, we're getting rain and winds of up to 30mph. I guess you can take the guy out of Houston, but you can't take the Houston out of the guy. I was supposed to fly into Houston at 9:15pm on Friday, but of course my flight was cancelled.
I made it through, although the eye of the storm passed directly over, and that was ****ing insane! I was standing on the front porch trying to film and heard this huge howl and I was thrown against the wall. I barely made it back inside. The devastation in my parents neighborhood where I was staying is unbelievable. They're still without power, but I came to check on my place, and even though half the condos are pretty much gone or brickless, not one thing happened to mine. Two guys decided to park there cars up on the grass next to one of the brick walls and it collapsed. One lost a nice looking civic, the other lost his new Z06. I have power, running water and internet, but no tv. I had the parents bring all of the perishables over to my freezer and fridge in case they don't have power for a while as the generators are running out of gas. I've had MAYBE 8 hours of sleep since Thursday night. Cleaning up all of the trees that were uprooted on their property, removing all plants and trees by the pool then putting them back today, like 50 heavy trees... I also broke my hand by punching some drunk who was riding a mini motorcycle around at 2am while we were under dusk to dawn curfew. We were smoking a brisket, drinking brewskies on the patios when we asked him to quit riding through our yard and tearing it up. He then got smart and got off his dork bike and charged my brother. I had no intention of fighting to begin with, but when he charged my brother I knocked him clean cold out and the police took him to jail and actually told me "good job". I haven't punched anyone in years, and to see him laying clean cold out on the sidewalk when the police arrived was scary, but so awesome. I totally thought I was going to jail. I have a 7AM meeting with Centerpoint tomorrow morning trying to figure how we're going to get the rest of the city back up and running, and I am exhausted. Mother Nature is NOT one to take lightly!
I agree, but if there is retaliation it will be towards my parents vehicles, house, and for that I feel very guilty and mad...although my dad is a big guy and scared the **** out of the "crew" who came to take up for their drunken buddy. They drove by me a few times today while we were cleaning up the front yard, and besides stares, nothing happened. Dude's eye was swollen shut, but I have a feeling that they knew that they were in the wrong, plus the police told them that if anything happens in the future, they will all go to jail. Thank you Pasadena police. They were doing a GREAT job driving through our neighborhood all night and had received numerous calls about these drunk losers.
My power came back on about 7:30pm tonight... the house next door to me and across the street had extensive roof damage and leaking. Don't know how we escaped house problems... that wind just kept pounding. A lot of trees down everywhere.
Behad had a few long days at the plant and haven't seen him on the BBS since I think Saturday evening. Seems like his family left home before Ike rolled in. No idea how his home fared from the storm. Rockets2K probably lost power and is on generators keeping his household going. Posting on the BBS gets pushed down the priority list in a situation like that. No idea about any damage issues for him.
