Rice area: no power but house ok. I'm at work downtown and fortunate enough to have a hotel room booked. Hotel is online so life is good for me.
Still alive in Manvel, 77578, posted in another thread, some roof shingels flew off a small part of the roof, causing a leak in the 2nd floo in the game room, my backyard fence is down, and still no power running 24 hours now. Going to my sister's place in pearland/shadow creek in a few since she got her power earlier, ill post pics of the damage here and others around the area
Ziggy here, I spent last night drinking outside w my dog watching the chaos. Slept from 4am-12. Drove around, saw pretty much 1 halved tree per house, 2 houses per block with a tree through their life, and a few streets treed off. (makin up words, delirium)- Anyways, drove to College Station at 2 to watch some football and chill in my house that I have here. God I can't imagine going for a week or more powerless. I may stay up here assuming work is canceled. I will buy a generator while I am up here, if you guys need something like that maybe I could help, I dunno... I am (was) in the Spring Branch area, lemme know when power is back...
Still alive ... my DC power inverter fuse blew out and I couldn't recharge my laptop last night. As of 6 pm when I left the house there was no power, no water and no gas. Over at a friend's place with a generator. Had a tree ripped in two (it fell on my fence but miraculously the fence was not damaged one bit), one broken window and some shingles ripped off the tool shed. Other than that everything's gravy, thank God.
Power cut out. I am back online at my brother's house by Tomball. My brother did a recon at my house in SE Houston(Gulfgate area). Some shingles flew off. There may be minor leaking issues. The chimney seperated from the house by about 5-6 inches. Tin shed in back yard collapsed. My 15 ft tangerine tree fell down in the front yard. I am came out ok, but I don't have the money to fix the roof.
I'm in Waco right now. I'm worried about the house (on the eastside). I called the office of emergency management and they said we couldn't come home yet. We're probably coming back tomorrow no matter what.
George here via iPhone. Hwy 3 & El Dorado...power is on! My job and my wife's job in Galveston are no more. Is there asistance from FEMA in out our situation...we'll both be sending resumes out asap. Sidebar: most of my friends and family in Galveston are homeless
It is really really really muggy. If you don't have AC, it'll be absolutely miserable at your house. If you have somewhere to stay with electricity, I highly recommend staying put. Call (or text) a neighbor to make sure your house is okay, if roof/walls/windows are intact. If so, there's nothing you can do but pick up branches in your yard anyway. Also, it's nearly impossible to get gas. Those that are open, have long lines. If you drive in, then your tank will be running low ...which puts you at real risk.
I'm alive. The roof was ripped up where I stayed and we were on the first floor of a 3 story apartment, but it eventually lead to leaking in the bedroom. The carpet is 70% soaked in that room. No power. Once I got to my apartment to check it out, I found that there was absolutely no damage. Surprising since I had leaks when I first moved in. I guess the repair guy actually did his job. No power there either. Staying the night at my girlfriend's friend's place. They're in the Heights and NEVER lost power I've never been so appreciative of air conditioning!
I'm fine - rode out the storm in Orange County....(California, not Texas, thankfully). I had a colleague check my house, and it is undamaged, but without power, like most places in Houston
tanglewood has a lot of downed trees. check out the randall's at sage @ san felipe. the whole facade got ripped off along with some bricks.
If you do come back, be sure to refuel your tank as often as you can. There is no gas. Most stations don't even have electricity for the pumps. Be sure to grab some cash from ATMs, in case, the credit card machines are broken, too. I am completely out of gas.
tell me about it... couple houses down from us: randalls: our hurricane war room (thank god our family's clothing store miraculously kept power): i had a ton of pictures of our house to post but i inadvertently deleted them about 2 mins ago...
v3.0 thanks for finding that! My wife got a nose bleed from the stress. I can't even get intouch with my parents (cell service).
