That's the 8:00 AM model run, not the 2:00 PM one. Where's that one?

Texan Superiority Complex + Redneck Understanding of "Hurycanes" + Rita Blowover = recipe for idiocy.

Those people in Galveston have no idea whats about to happen to them.

Even the models on Stormpulse appear to be the old ones.

The mayor of Galveston should be run out of the United States if all those people die. How could she tell people to stay when everything had predicted a mega disaster for Galveston?

    That's all they got.

I'm finding it interesting/concerning that 3 of those models still have it possibly coming more west and right over Austin. Not sure what the odds of that are or how accurate those 3 models are, but I think people here have completely let their guard down...

She never told people to stay. The "protocol" for Galveston was a 72 hour advance notice evacuation. Since they were now within the 72 hours, that was why she said she "couldn't call for a mass evacuation"... she probably mis-spoke more than anything else, and thus people interpreted that as "don't evacuate."

In the end, people were ordered to evacuate... and they still stayed. Asking them to leave earlier likely wouldn't have changed those people's minds (when the weather was still perfect, and there was no traffic anywhere).

Yesterday she was basically saying only the west end of the island was in danger. Was she misspeaking? Maybe, but she screwed up.

Tom Tynan basically just called you a big dummy if you waste time taping your windows, unless you cover them completely.

Just to clear up that debate...

My cousin has never seen a Hurricane before. He left with my brother to drive down to Galveston. They should have stayed in Tomball. Hopefully, they turn around at Texas City.

Techincally, the west end is the only part of galveston that has the highest risk of truly being "underwater", as she was referring to the part with no seawall.

Also, the east end is less of a flood-zone as it is all raised land (see UTMB webcam as posted above).

Sure, the east end people will be without electricity, water, and most liveable ameneties... but as far as "possible death", only the west end inhabitants are staring that right in the face.
