This thing is huge. Please, if you're anywhere near the coastal side, just go now. I'm a little afraid that, with the last couple of false alarms, people might not take this one as seriously as they should. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in Houston... stay safe.
Just wanted to say Good Luck to everyone in the storm's way! i'll be praying for all of you, as will my family. Born in Houston now living in South Florida. Good Luck once again
Hey guys I am agonizing here. My entire family is in Houston and I am in Colombia. I wish I was there helping my grandmother prepare her house. My father is old and he has 2 sisters and two mothers to take care of. Im afraid he won't make it on time. He told me at this very moment he was boarding up one of my grandmothers houses with my little sister but he still hasn't been able to make it to our house. I will be praying for all of you. May God watch over our city and all of you in it.
Right now. For some areas it's already too late. The people on the island who waited until 7 or 8 this morning were fine. When they woke up and heard the first reports, it became a 100% no-brainer to get out.
I am in the Caribbean for med school and its ironic that I am the one worried about my parrents in Sugar land
I heard that people are advised to be off the roads by noon but our president here at work says we can't leave that early (because she's a b****). So I'm wondering what's the latest I could leave work and still make it to my girlfriend's apartment without dying. Luckily it's a short trip.
For us people in Sugar Land, Behad posted a graph earlier in this thread that shows winds here would be 60-80 sustained with gusts 120+.
EDIT: Repost from other thread Do they have streaming video of Houston news stations online, like KTRK, KHOU or KPRC? I remember there was a link for something similar to the New Orleans television stations when Gustav was nearby. I'm an out of towner who wants to keep track of the storm locally. Thanks.
That's the simple answer, yes. But let's say I want to have a job on Monday, or whenever I return to work... Are you saying it won't be safe after noon?
John Culberson just came out of a FEMA meeting and said the flood aspect of Ike will be like the great hurricane of 1900. Galveston Island will be completely submerged for 12 hours. All beach houses on the west part of the island will be completely destroyed. He said even Texas City will be submerged.
Wanted to post this again. Neat interactive tool on what wind speeds to expect in your area: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/graphical/sectors/hgx.php
Just got a call from my Dad saying that my Aunt's house in Cameron has water at the door step. They aren't even finished with it after Rita wiped them off of the map. Storm surge is going to be massive.
I was saying "dude" as in "Umm, listen to me", but... ok, ok, I'll stop calling you dude. I don't think you will be ok, but that's all I can do. Be safe then, sir. www.hidefromthewindhouston.org <- I can't believe they didn't buy the .com for those peeps who think EVERYTHING is .com in this time of need. We need pictures of your girlfriend to help you decide.
