Does anyone think Houston officials are taking a big risk by not evacuating the city, or that it's best since most zip codes here aren't predicted to get flooding...so the freeways are clear for those who have to leave? Just hoping I made the right decision to stay.........
What else should they say to get the severity of the message through? Some folks in those areas are choosing not to leave.
The consensus this time around is common sense. The primary danger is flooding in coastal areas and they have been evacuated except in the case of fruitcakes. Even now, a lot of those people can still get out if they leave immediately. Perhaps waking up and hearing the morning news will shake them into reality. The damage figures from Ike are going to be HUGE. The non-flood areas are going to get 20-24 hours of very strong winds and should be OK, for the most part. Nobody thinks it's much of a risk to not evacuate the entire city. The local elected officials are on the ball.
Anyone staying in the yellow stripe area has my prayers but they should have left before now. This could be catastrophic.
I think you will be but don't take my word for it. I'd say enjoy a long hot shower, eat some ice cream (or something out of the freezer) and enjoy the last of the a/c for a while. Oh and I hope you followed the prepared thread and filled up your bath tub. Personal tip - just because you have water a day later doesn't mean you won't lose water. They shut off mine a day or 2 later for a week because the water station was flooded and they couldn't purify the water.
Just turn on the TV. You think people have had the time to take, process and post pictures on the internet???
My sister in law lives in Mount Belvue and they still haven't left. We keep telling them to come to our house but they won't make a f#"@king decision.
