holy **** ima take back what i said yesterday. Majority of the roads in galveston are under water and its not even ****ing close!
Zoomed in version. This is strange. The models have moved further apart from each other. We are still less than 18 hours away. 3 of the models are going straight to Free port. Two other models are going for Galveston Bay.
models shifting south. don't tell billingsley! reflecting the more westward jog we were talking about late last night, i think. if those southern outliers are right, that's worse for houston area as a wind storm.
The national media is reporting that evacuations haven't been called for in Houston. Haven't you guys had evacuation zones established? And is evacuation mandatory in those zones? Be safe.
Thanks. Most people in Houston will be fine. But the storm surge in the coastal areas will be one to remember. For those of you with property at risk, I wish you the best, but it sure doesn't look good at all. Last night's optimism is gone.
betterthanever -- any storm flirting with cat 3 and landfall between freeport and galveston is a bad day.
I feel so helpless here in Austin; my mom is hunkering down by herself. She did it during Alicia, but that was a long time ago. I'm glued to the news via the Internet.
The storm surge is going to be awful for anyone along the coast. Looks like central Houston will get hurricane force winds, but not much higher, which will be bad, but it could be a lot worse. The problem with this storm is that, while it may actually be weaker than Alicia in terms of wind and even rain, the storm surge is going to be MASSIVE and the area the hurricane force winds is very large - 80 miles - meaning a much larger area will be impacted.
The three most reliable models (HWRF, GFDL and UKMET) for this storm are right where the official forecast is, so I doubt the NHC will move much if at all.
Yeah the zones expected to be most affected by storm surge are under mandatory evacuation. Now all of Houston isn't under evacuation so maybe that's what they mean. But a mandatory evacuation of all of Houston will never happen.
