I know your tired of the questions. lol. but i have'nt lived here before. i'm on the western side of league city away from kemah, and just wanted to make sure i'm in a place where my little toyota corrola wont flood out.
IROC it I have been to the Surfside area only a few times. Remember crossing over a bridge (Intracoastal canal?) then taking a left to a beach. Probably a pier or something in the area and some houses off the beach by 100 -200 yards. With that much storm surge, will the water flow all the way to the Intracoastal Canal?
don't be so sure - it's suppose to strengthen - but no ones how to forecast this large of a storm. it could organize and strengthen quickly or just get larger and larger. but it's a dangerous storm.
I can answer this for you Mango as I am a resident of Surfside. We left when they first issued the man. evac and moved back into Angelton to wait out the storm. But to answer your question yes the surge will get into the Intracostal Canal by way of just out right beach flooding but mainly by the jetties that give access to all the big tankers and freight ships that use this waterway as a direct access to port.
rcoleman15 Good to see you on the overnight shift. If the surge is able to push all the way to the Intracoastal Canal, what are the expectations for the houses in between? I remember they are on stilts, but how much surge would be too much?
Channel 11 HAD a live report from Surfside and the water was already lapping beneath one of the houses. <hr> Behad Like old times?
Rest assured it will push all the way to and beyond the Intracostal. What most people don't realize is all that land behind us is essentially saltwater marsh and waterways. It's one of the most prone areas to severe flooding in Brazoria county. There are absolutely no defenses there to prevent it. Instead those defenses mainly the levi system lie a couple miles behind us and protect everything beyond it while pushing the water back at us. As for the houses in between. Tropical storms have kicked the crap out of us before especially the houses on the beach front. The houses that lie within Bridge Harbor right behind us stand the best chance right now. But as it is right now I can't really say. I expect the same kind of extensive damage that I saw with Carla's surge with all I have heard at this point in time.
Some foolish people are running around the Galveston Jetties and Seawall with the surf definitely up. Too much alcohol and not enough common sense. Behad, Where does the private weather service now predict landfall?
