that's why i don't think it will track that far over. i think this storm is moving quicker than rita was too, right? if the next computer models hold tight around where they are i'd say you can pretty much expect a galveston landfall...THOUGH I SUPPOSE ANYTHING IS STILL POSSIBLE.
I wonder if more people in the Houston area are going to die trying to flee instead of staying put. I had only lived in Houston for a couple of years when Rita hit. My friend who grew up in the area said not to leave so I took his advice. I remember driving home from work heading south on Sam Houston and seeing the parking lot of cars facing north. That must have sucked.
i don't see that response...this isn't a cat. 5 spinning out there. i can see i-10 from my offices and traffic has been heavier than usual outbound all day...but nothing like what we saw with rita. they're evacuating coastal areas.
In light of comments (not in this thread) on the recent hurricanes affecting New Orleans: Who's going to be the first poster to suggest that we shouldn't rebuild Galveston if it gets destroyed?
I hope it stays that way. It was tragic to hear about people dying when they really had no need to leave.
After pumping in dirt to raise the island and building a seawall, Galveston is ABOVE sea level. NOLA is surrounded by water on all sides...water that is higher than it is.
I think Jeff posted it or something similar earlier in this thread, but here is the Rita track: Rita Graphics Click through until about frame 19 -20, then walk through it slowly.
got this as a text message: Mayor Bill White just announced a mandatory evacuation list for Houston. White people 45 north, mexicans 59 south and blacks 610 loop.
We shouldn't rebuild Galveston if it gets destroyed. I mean that would be the 3rd time in over a century. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
interesting...by this point the projected landfall was well east of us...and the storm was moving NW....this one is still moving WNW
the chronicle doesn't typically make its own forecast maps...it posts the official forecast...the official forecast is just west of galveston right now.
lol. Good looking out v3.0! Looks like she already been brought up by the good people of Clutchfans via google search. First time I had seen her and I think she's hot.
