Centerpoint says the 2 week thing is only for Ft Bend County and that is an absolute worst case scenario.
as difficult as it has been to predict Ike's landfall.. Tornadoes are much more unpredictable.. but it's generally believed that Tornadoes spawned from Hurricanes tend to be less intense than those spawned by powerful thunderstorms in the plains.. here's some "Tornado Facts" I got off the NHC website.. in relation to those spawned by Hurricanes.. not sure if it'll be of enough help or not.. Tornado Facts -When associated with hurricanes, tornadoes are not usually accompanied by hail or a lot of lightning, clues that citizens in other parts of the country watch for. -Tornado production can occur for days after landfall when the tropical cyclone remnants maintain an identifiable low pressure circulation. -They can also develop at any time of the day or night during landfall. However, by 12 hours after landfall, tornadoes tend to occur mainly during daytime hours.
the gas stations are swamped and the grocery stores are mobbed. i am not going outside again til this damn thing hits.
That's pretty bad, although not as much as the recent one: ALL NEIGHBORHOODS....EVACUATE OR FACE CERTAIN DEATH BY IMPALEMENT OF LOOSE FENCE POSTS. BE AWARE THAT HURRICANE IKE WILL TRANSFORM YOUR CHILDREN INTO BLOOD THIRSTY VAMPIRES WHO WILL FEAST ON YOUR REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS. ALL COASTAL COMMUNITIES SHOULD FOLLOW EVACUATION PROCEDURES AS MOTHRA HAS BEEN SEEN IN THE AREA. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN THE MELTING OF YOUR BRAIN. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL AUTHORITIES FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO BEND OVER AND KISS YOUR ASS GOODBYE.
Also.. just because they're saying there's a high probability of Ike spawning multiple tornadoes.. doesn't necessarily mean the end result is going to be as chaotic as it sounds.. some might just spawn but not touch down.. some may last no more than a few minutes on the ground.. before quickly dissipating..
I remember during Rita, the media was saying the storm surge could reach inland as far Baybrook Mall. That seems a bit excessive, does anyone know if this is even possible?
