I don't think the new models were out yet, they were looking at the plane and buoy information as well as the satellite images showing the constant attack by dry air on the Northwestern side of the storm.
What a monster of a storm? It is already flooding the coast of Florida panhandle, and the center is 200 miles away.
Houston freeways are already starting to pile up. 290 is a parking lot. I-10 and I-45 are getting there. I-45 from Galveston to North Shepard looks pretty bad. EDIT: Actually, all freeways leading West, Northwest, or North (besides 59) are already PACKED. And so, it begins....
Yep, I just saw this. The guy on ch 13 said it hadn't gotten any stronger. Predictably though he also said it is showing signs of intensification.
Ain't gonna lie - all I can think about right now is missing the USC/OSU game due to no power. Damn you Ike. DAMN YOUUUUU!!
its supposed to be intensifying for the last two days. it still hasn't. even if it does its going to run out of time/water to become a monster, hopefully.
which would be a great thing... but storm surge is absolutely going to suck on this one. it's going to be really impactful, it seems, given the size of the storm.
I've been in Baltimore all week for work. My flight back to Houston is set for 6:30pm tomorrow evening with a return time of 10pm into Bush. I called Delta Airlines just now to see whats up, they said my flight remains on schedule. <shrug> What do you guys think? Even if I do make it home ok, will the drive from Bush to my house on Hwy 6/I-10 be killer?
The problem is that 952 is still a low pressure for a 100 mph cane, so it seems unlikely to weaken. If anything, the collapse of the inner eyewall (what's leading to the higher pressure) would likely lead to strengthening tonight, since the inner wall has been a mess for days.
its going to pull a rita....i think what i can see of the tiny little picture of the new models being updated on wunderground have pulled east of galveston...i may be wrong, though..hard to see still. EDIT: I was wrong...only one is east now. the rest are bunched up near Galveston. The UKMET model is the one we're watching closest. Not good. Maybe it will keep pulling east???? We're about 34 hours out now from landfall.
I dont know if this has been posted or not yet but heres a link to forecasted maximum wind data for each zip code. http://houstonhidefromthewind.org/
