I live in the Bellaire/Meyerland area with my girl and have the opportunity to go to the Woodlands. I'm not in the part that floods but should I head up North. I may just because my chick is freaking out but I don't want to be someone who is clogging up the roads for no reason.
The latest 11am update is basically the same. Ike is still a really weird storm with a TINY eye and hurricane force winds extending out as far as Katrina. I was at the grocery store a while ago and it was a freaking madhouse. People are just out of control. What do you need 6 cases of bottled water and an entire cart of canned food for? This isn't the apocalypse.
Just wanna say thanks again to Clutch and Jeff for this site. I have gotten my best information from wunderground and here...it seems to be that way through every one of these drills. It's a huge service to people in Houston from a group that probably never intended it to be such when they wanted to start a Houston Rockets message board! But it's much much appreciated.
Should I board up my windows? I live a little north of Humble in Montgomery County, will be get any more than wind and rain? or should I be concerned about flooding in this area? I am fairly new to the area...
Yes, isn't it ironic (don't cha think) that the best source of info for this hurricane........is a basketball website? We still have all our supplies from Gustav. We don't even need to go to the store. Thank God. I'll bet it's going to be out of control for the next few days.
Jeff, sorry to single you out, but what are your thoughts on staying in a newer highrise (uptown park area) vs an older apt on 2nd floor in west u area?
For those doing last minute shopping try drug stores (Walgreens) for less drama. May pay a little more but a least the one I went to this morning wasn't crazy like I've heard about the big grocery stores.
find out about the windows in the high rise...if they're hurricane windows, stay there. during hurricane alicia, the towers downtown lost tons of glass in the windows...it took a long time to be able to go back downtown because there was so much glass. you just want to make sure the windows are safe...if they are, i'd stay in the highrise...and you'll have an incredible view of this storm!
concerns about Montgomery County flooding? I don't really know which areas flood bad out here, what my decision on leaving depends on is how bad Montgomery County floods during heavy heavy winds, should I be concerned about this issue, or no?
are you by yourself? if you're by yourself, go hang out with your mom. if she needs any help, you're there...and it's better than being alone. we've decided to go spend the storm with my parents who live very close to us on the west side. ironically, it's the same house i lived through alicia in as a litle boy...now i have 2 little boys to look after in this storm. my parents are in their 70's...and to me it just makes sense to be together.
Smart guy. Sounds like me. Off today at 2PM and no work tomorrow. Swuut! Please keep going WEST young man. WEST.
Went at 6 this morning to get gas and forced the wife to leave early so she could also fill the tank going in. I don't want to imagine the gas station madhouse this evening. Wait...I don't have to, I still remember Rita. No plans to evac from SW Houston, but I remember how it took almost a week for stations to open up after Rita's non-hit. Looks like I'll have the go ahead to leave today at 1. Sounds great to me. Time to get a load of ice and liquor. Agreed about Clutch being an A+ Greater Houston info source. I use it for that more than I do to talk Rockets. Let the loudmouth noob posters overrun the Game Action forum, the better stuff is here in the Hangout. Evan
