I am not sure where it is safer to be for me...at my apt complex right across street from the summit (lakewood church), was built over 10 years ago...or at my parents high rise in uptown park? they claim the high rise is built to withstand the winds but i really dunno..
Would it be dumb to go to school today? I go to UH-Downtown and have to travel up 59 from Sugar Land to Downtown... Would I hit a bunch of traffic because of the mandatory evacuations?
Like I said, it depends on if you are in a surge or flood zone. If you are in the evacuation zone, you need to leave. If not and you are outside those areas, there is really no reason to live unless you are in a structurally unsound home.
Unfortunately, the NAM is not a dynamic model, so it isn't worth watching. The major models to pay attention to are the GFDL, HWRF, GFS, UKMET, NOGAPS and the European model, which is proprietary so not listed on Wunderground.
I figured it was junk since it didn't remotely resemble any other model (but looks strikingly similar to my MS Paint models).
Same question I have...except I'm only going from Galleria area to downtown...but I don't want to sit in traffic for an hour and a half.
My bad. I didn't realize you were talking about the evacuation. I was referring to winds. I think we could all be in for some very heavy winds.
just saw an army convoy headed down 59 (in sugarland)...most likely headed to galveston... traffic was not that bad on 59 or hwy 6 (galveston evac route) yet...
So stupid that some of these schools/districts are trying to hold classes today. If people are going to leave, they might want to do it early.
I have family in the Houston area, I need to try to contact them to see what they are doing. I hope all of you make it out or ride it out of there OK. Be safe!
I hope 59 North isn't full of people tonight after midnight. I don't want to get caught in traffic coming home from a freakin' gig. I would say if you live to the North or West of Downtown, don't freak out. Just be prepared for a few days without electricity. Ride out the storm and leave the highways open for the people who really do need to evacuate.
