If there would be enough storm damage in the Houston area to leave 1.4 to 2 million customers without electrical service, there would be more pressing concerns than posting on a Message Board or finding fun stuff to do with the whole town in shambles. It might be humorous to you at the moment, but it isn't funny once it happens. Just a guess, but you seem rather young. Perhaps you are still living with your parents or they are paying most of your bills. Your POV -- attitude about wanting a hurricane doesn't come across as somebody who is living a normal adult life of holding a job and maintaining a household.
Eff you, sir... eff you for wishing such tragedy on any of us... that is SACRILEGE, for you to think like that... a hex on YOU, sir.
The summer is officially ending if the cool fronts are starting to come around. That's ok, I love the cool fronts this time of year. Well, I think we're pretty much done with any chances of a hurricane hitting Texas. It's September already. I don't recall if there were any history of hurricanes hitting Texas in September and October. Weather gurus?
Your pretty much dead on with this. Since 1850 only 3 storms have impacted the Texas coastline after September 24th. Hurricane Rita struck the coast on the 24th of September but ultimately made land fall on the Louisiana side of the border. Basically we are about to the very end of our hurricane season here in Texas as the weaker cold fronts usually start making their way down here generally around the 20th and they basically give us a buffer against hurricanes for the rest of the official season. But still you shouldn't let your guard down as one could sneak through even if the odds of that happening are below 5%.
I was curious, I was planning on being in NC and VA all next week - is that really a good idea with all these storms out there. Last thing I want to do is get stuck there.
trust me, you do not want to experience a hurricane. I have been through Katrina, and Rita. Trust me when I tell you they are hell. during the hurricane is kind of cool, but the after effects... No water, No A/C, No Gas, eating MRE's is alright, but they do get old after the 150thmillion one you eat... Hurricanes are not something anyone should experience.
I hope it doesn't go to Miami, I love Miami. Anyway, hurricanes are not fun. I experienced Hurricane Charley in '04 in Orlando...it completely ruined my trip, no power and a/c!
If you were ever the guy having to pay the bills at your household, you DO NOT want a storm anywhere near you. That is why most sane adults have no desire to see a storm in their area. Once you grow up you will understand.
Do you guys know which forcast model is usually the most reliable. From what I have read before from wunderground and other places it seems like GFDL and HWRF are the most accurate, with GFS a close second. Is this true?
Yeah, that's about the order the NHC looks at for reliability and as of the 8:00 EDT model runs both the GFDL and HWRF are pointing Ike into the Gulf with a north turn after that.
