Well, hell. I'd be more comfortable just locking everything down and taking a little weekend trip out. But I didn't want to leave too late. Stupid Pasadena school district not announcing anything and keeping my wife here.
Latest poll has them 3rd in the state. Did you see the whippin' they put on Cy-Fair? (Mango and I have been doing some VB watching together lately...)
No more zip codes. You'll notice there's really not much difference in the outcomes. I'll do more tomorrow evening once the track is settled more. That profile is based on the current forcast. Impact weather is a private weather service we use at the DP pollution producer/oil refinery
I know a Cy Fair player, so of course I was there. After the match, told Becky & her mother good luck on their way to the playoffs. Pearland should be their toughest competition in Region III.
That's awesome! Now that I have normal hours again, I may try to catch some games out here. Some of my very first sports memories were going to all my sister's games when she played for Katy way back in the early 80s and my buddies and I were volleyball groupies in high school. Definitely an underrated sport.
I had a training class Tuesday, and couldn't leave early enough to go that freaking far to watch a game.
Do you work for Shell? I've been in that refinery........used to work for a company that the handled the coker operations.
http://blogs.chron.com/sciguy/archives/2008/09/a_few_answers_f.html September 10, 2008 Answers for a few common Ike chat questions There have been a great deal of unanswered questions during the live chats. Harris County Fire Marshal Mike Montgomery, also the county's former emergency management coordinator, has provided us with some answers that we hope will help you prepare for Ike or ease your mind a little. 1. Would a hotel room in Houston be far enough inland? This all depends on the track of the storm and its intensity. Even if the storm makes landfall around Matagorda/Palacios (the current track as of 4 PM), there is a possibility of tropical storm force winds across Harris County and the city of Houston. Continue to monitor local conditions and listen to the local media for estimated conditions before you make your decision. 2. Any instructions out there for novices ... on boarding up windows? If I did have wood for my windows .. I have no clue what to do. Most important thing is to not wait until the last minute. Visit your local home repair store and ask for advice — there are new techniques that do not require drilling holes in the side of your house. Make a plan. Measure the windows and other openings that need to be protected. Buy what you need. Install according to directions. 3. Where are the shelters for people who have no homes located? If you have not done so, register by calling 211 or 311 for evacuation assistance — whether you have medical special needs, or simply need transportation. Since Houston is a "pass through" community, there are no plans for shelters in the area before the hurricane. Shelters are designated as part of the state-supported evacuation plan and are located farther inland. 4. Do you really think flooding will be a big problem? I am much more concerned about wind damage ... do I need to be worried about flooding? Flooding is more of a concern in coastal areas, but the storm surge could extend inland depending on storm track and intensity. Continue to monitor local conditions and prepare to evacuate to higher ground based on your ZIP code and recommendations of local officials. If a mandatory evacuation is necessary, it will be by ZIP code based on the potential for flooding caused by storm surge. During the storm, expect heavy rainfall, between 4-8 inches, possibly more. So localized flooding is a possibility, but it is too early to predict what those conditions will be. It all will depend on the actual storm track and its intensity. 5. Will flights be leaving Hobby Friday morning? Check with your airline for the latest information on departing and arriving flights. 6. What is the best route for evacuating Houston, and when will I be alerted that I have to leave? The best route depends on where you live and where you want to go. Continue to monitor the path and intensity of the storm. Check the evacuation maps listed on the Harris County Office of Emergency Management Web site under "Evacuation Data." Major evacuation routes are shown in red. Some routes may include contraflow lanes based on traffic conditions.
Mango and I agree completely. I'm going to send you a pic to your BBS email. I'd post it here, but my wife would kill me.
If they are starting to compare it to Wilma then there is a good possibility that this thing becomes a Cat 5, correct?
That's pretty cool, I go to Brook... I went to Lake for Fresh and Sophomore year. I switched to Brook after that year, and am now completing my senior year...
Behad, Until the Playoffs, I won't see Creek again because the drive to your area is a pain. I know Scott wasn't happy with having to make the drive up 290 either. <hr> Now back to hurricane talk... Do plants such as yours keep producing or is there a certain weather -- wind condition that forces things to be shutdown? If I remember correctly, shutdown and the subsequent restart operations can be lengthy and rather expensive.
A projected direct hit from a Cat 4 or above will trigger a shutdown. The problem is that it takes 24 hours to shut down. We guessed wrong in 2005 with Rita (shut down when we didn't have to)...I'm worried they're gonna guess wrong again this time and try to run thru it.
