Sorry it took so long to respond. I've been busy boarding up windows, updating my resume, and making out a will. I think I have all the bases covered. I work for an oil refinery as a production specialist (a management position). I'll either be at work trying to keep the place running, or at work shutting the place down. Either way, I have to be there till it's too late to leave safely. So we just hole up in a control room and wait it out.
respect man. people like you keep this country running no matter how bad stuff is. the key to americas success --- organization and infrastructure
You left out capitalism....I'll get paid an AZZLOAD of money for what I'll be going thru this weekend.
Dunno if it's just because the image is looped, but does anyone else notice that slight dip to the south in this image?
Behad, can you please update your reporter-in-a-storm photo in Ike? Thank you. And seriously, best wishes to you and your crew. (Yes, even your low-rent League City crew, but mainly I meant your work team.)
No. If anyone needs to leave it is the people who live in storm surge evacuation areas. Everyone not in those areas just clog up the freeways which is not fair.
I'm on the Houston Emergency "You must come in to work on Monday" plan, and I had vacation scheduled. This is teh suck! We're first up with power along with hospitals and emergency units as we make the products that get your electricity back up and running. Just weird reading WU all day saying a Galveston hit, then coming home and EVERY weather caster is saying a Matagorda hit with minimal hurricane force winds in Harris County. This storm is driving me crazy. Just get it over with already. I've got a book. My iPod is charged, water, a pool, food, BEER, a generator to keep the BEER cold, gas in the car, propane for the grill, every type of battery ever made sitting around since Rita, cash. I'm ready for battle.
Latest 18z models are out: 18z GFS same: Corpus Christi 18z UKMET same: Corpus Christi 18z GFDL same: in between Freeport and Galveston 18z HWRF shifted back south again compared to last run and is once again below Corpus Christi
This is not good. Ike is now intensifying at a high rate. Central pressure is down to 944mb and the winds will likely catch up very soon. This will no doubt be at least a category 3 very soon. Models are starting to inch closer and closer to us. Not good.
You can tell the storm is intensifying rapidly in the gif posted by GuerillaBlack - the trail of dry air (dark black bands) in the storm is almost completely gone.
