great point!!! but......i've been reading meterologists saying, "we're really gonna have a good idea of where this thing is headed with the wednesday afternoon computer runs." so right now...if this thing makes landfall early saturday morning...we're about 60 hours away. these models start becoming more and more reliable. the question is what do YOU need to do prepare one way or the other. that's different for everyone, really. but i think we're starting to get the idea that there's a pretty reasonable chance we'll end up with hurricane force winds here this weekend. given that...prepare as you personally need to. but if you live on the coast...the time is now to start planning to get out. my guess is you'll start getting that from galveston city officials in the next 3 hours or so, before the 5 pm news.
We have an event planned at Noon at work and we are watching this closely to see if we are going to cancel or not.
Just got word that HISD canceled all football games for this week and looks like they will be out of school until Monday. I don't have a link but got it from someone at Beaumont Ozen who is supposed to play Worthing.
They've called for a voluntary evacuation of the West End of the island. In the meantime, UTMB is going into Emergency status tomorrow (Thursday) at 7PM. This means all non-essential UTMB personnel will be off Friday. They are also expecting 55-60mph winds. Also, all Galveston Schools are closing at 11:45 AM tomorrow.
I knew about West End stuff...but didn't know about schools! Was that decisin just made based on the newest model runs?
Its coming right at us!! Seriously, I picked the wrong week to quit smoking. This thing is making me nervous.
Not sure- my supervisor just told me. He called his daughter's school and that's what they told him. Chances are that the media hasn't heard about it yet. I'll post when I hear more info.
He is (was?) in the coaching profession, so I respect his information and source. <hr> Since you are helping him with the weather queries, perhaps you could just have him repay the favor by helping you with some of the legal queries by your clients.
Should be for certain on the games. Not positive how reliable it is for the closures. He works at Ozen and they got word their game was canceled with all the rest of the HISD games. I know for certain Waller is not playing and Barbers Hill is also not playing. As for closures anywhere else I don't know. Just passing on the info I got. Also found this link on the SETX Sports Forum: http://www.setxsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=42526.0 The guy that posted works for the local paper.
Today and Tomorrow's model track will determine exactly where it's going to go. Right now GFDL (most accurate) is predicting it to be basically right there on Houston (that's the eye of the storm). Even if the eye does not come to Houston, the east end of the storm has a lot of rain and wind so that alone will flood some of the roads in some parts of Houston.
That's awesome!! Reminds me of that SNL clip with John McCain singing Streisand's songs..."she's been trying to do my job for years, so I figured I'd give hers a shot!!"
