It is getting pretty windy and rainy up here in College Station. I am enjoying a Vodka Tonic on the back Deck. I can only imagine the wind you guys are getting in Houston. This thing is a direct hit on H Town. It is a foreboding of our upcoming Rockets Season. We are going to go Ike on this League.

From what I'm able to see is part of backyard fence got torn apart. The house is fine but we have 3 cars outside... No power since 2 and writing this from my iPhone
Angleton's airport weather station has been off line since 2:50-ish... Power's probably out... no vortex signature reported. KHOU reporting Kemah mostly under water... 6' of water "everywhere you look" - Even inside the city hall, which is on higher ground.
Man, this sucks. I'm exhausted with lack of sleep last night plus tonight. We're holed up in my closet cuz we heard some freight train noises. Our backyard fence is flattened and facing the house northeast...I'm worried they may be torn apart and fly into my house. My aunt in SE is really getting it hard...already damaged to her car and my grandma's house. This is the worst night of my life. I don't even remember being this scared when I was in Orlando. I want this to be over even with the power out and heat coming.
KHOU reports Galveston's San Luis Hotel is "shaking" from the winds on the back side of the storm. They reported that this was not happening on the front side, or at least they didn't notice it. Transformers are blowing up near the Hotel as I type this, they are moving reporters to the 2nd floor... from the 12th... see it here: http://www.maroonspoon.com/wx/ike.html There are several more hours to go... stay inside, stay safe...
Anyone know how the Bellaire/Meyerland area is doing? Is the power on? I'm away at school so I'd like to know how my family is doing.
for those that might run out of gas in your generators, remember to cut a hose and cypher gas out of your vehicle and hop a ride with a neighbor to the store and fill up if needed. Just praying this second half doesn't bring anymore damage to my home.
Hang in there. It should ease up in the next 30 minutes ... it will continue to rain and there will be some wind but the hurricane madness should ease up. Just keep yourself safe and stay away from any windows that aren't boarded up. It'll be over soon.
Wow! Pretty strong words. Hang in there Lady_Di. Best wished to you and all of Houstonians. It is 3:18 am here in the west coast. I have stayed up all night monitoring the hurricane. Whether because I'm a hurricane fanatic or becuase I have family living in Houston. My familly is living in west / south west houston, I hope they are ok.
30 minutes? KHOU said it would ease up more near 8 AM or even, *gulp* "noon." I like your idea... but it'll be longer than a half hour. Amazing. The back side is proving to be the worst side.
Wow... the phone call right now... A guy and his family kicked their front door out to get out of it, water was coming in too fast... Got out on the road, water was "up to the neck" - other people's house they passed were stuck and could not break out... a five minute walk to the Moody seawall convention center took them 30 minutes with water up to their necks... How many will not make it? Dr. Neil Frank just said "I'd give it another 2 or 3 hours" speaking of the worst wind in Houston near downtown.
I think I heard Highlands (north of Downtown). And I remember reading post from Jeff and Harrisment that they lived in Highlands or the Heights, I'm not sure. Anyways, good luck to all.
MSNBC reporting from Lake Jackson... dude is standing in ankle deep water... 9 miles inland. But it's rainwater...
Ike is doing a number on my house. I've got water leaks in 5 places that I've found. I know that this will be small compared to the terrible things we'll hear about after sunrise. Be safe everyone.
