Same im an evacuee here. The people at the hotel say that the power lines are underground so its unlikely that we lose power.
I posted a few of the pics I've taken today in the lead up to Ike. Nothing exciting yet to share, just pics of a few boarded up houses, as well as our neighborhood Ike party. I'll plan to update as I can throughout the next few days. Link
If you're talking about tornadoes that appear around the eye of hurricanes, these can't really be seen. That's why they were never discovered to happen until looking at the debris caused by Andrew. They are referred to as "miniwhirls." from wikipedia:
Latest update per KHOU: Eye is shrinking; 44 miles from 80 miles earlier; Gene Norman thinks that is a sign of intensification; NHC says wind speed is now 110 MPH Dr. Neal says storm is better organized than it was earlier
I guess power is flickering everywhere. I'd like the power to be turned off if it means it will be turned back on after the storm passes. If this storm is going to cause power loss for multiple days, it will be freaking nuts.
Does anyone know why the humidity drops before big storms? It's at 54%, I can actually go outside and breathe normally like I could in LA.
