Simien is not as good as Collison in college and we all know that Collison will never be a starting 4 in one of the better teams in the league.

I love tall players, but rebounding seems to be all about desire to get the ball. Which of these big guys loves to rebound? I think we need a player that is willing to do the dirty work.

Thank you. I've been searching for a quick and dirty way to summarize my oipinion of Simien. Living in Austin, I enjoy having access to Big 12 hoops. But I have serious reservations about the Big 12 becoming the next Mecca of Power Forwards. The difference between Simien and Fizer doesn't seem that great to me.

If you don't respect the PFs in the big 12 this won't matter, but against Joey Graham Simien had 30 and 7 one game and 32 and 12 in the other. That tells me that he played his best when going against the good competition. He may have the heart to make it in the NBA.

Heck, the Pac 10 sucks for power forwards too, but I still like Ike.

I have no idea why Frye is thought of so high, and I am a fan of Arizona baskteball. Honestly Loren Woods had a lot more NBA talent.

Ike or Simeon, either would be a nice compliment and bring a lot of toughness, strength, and athleticism to our front line.

I would be very satisfied if we picked up Simien or Diogu at #24. They are both good players that rebound the ball extremely well. They might be a tad undersized, but their strength makes up for it.

If the 6'7", 225# Joey Graham plays PF in the Big 12....thanks for proving my point. :D

His height without shoes was listed as 6' 7"+ not 6'6"+

From the looks of the scounting report, I'm wondering if it would be better to skip Joey and then pick up Stevie, his brother, on a free agent non-guaranteed deal when he doesn't get drafted and use our draft pick somewhere else.

To add to what thacabbage posted, you also have to take into consideration that guys you pick in 20s and below fall there because they have flaws - physical flaws (height, weight, lack of speed) or flaws in their game (shooting, ballhandling, rebounding) which is another reason they end up sitting on the bench. The problem the Rockets face this year is that they REALLY need to get a player who can play now as they have an abundance of guys sitting on the bench.

Now of course there are exceptions like Howard who went 29th because everyone that year was in love with HS players. And you can find some real players in the 20s - Tayshaun Prince was picked 22nd by Detroit - but you have to have an organization that can pick talent in the draft. Unfortunately, to date, that hasn't been the Rockets so I'll be keenly watching how they perform this year.

Does anyone know how the workout actually went specifically in Houston?

This news was actually a bit old. Yaomania gave us the scoop the day after it happened.

I think that was a workout he had with some NBA team. The draft camp measurements are more accurate.

Height is overrated for rebounding. Two of the best rebounders Iv'e ever seen play the game weren't even 6'7" (Barkley and Fortson). Shaun Marion's a pretty good rebounder, and he's not over 6'8". Yao is 7'5" and his rebounding isn't even close to the others I mentioned. Height is overrated for rebounding. Physical strength, good feet, and a long wingspan have a hell of a lot more to do with rebounding the ball.

Ike is definately a nice pick here, but he won't be on the board. If Hodge is still on the board, I'd take him. I also like Jack and Simien here, either would be nice with the 24th pick. What a good draft to have a pick in, even if it's late. McCants is a mystery to me. If he is still available at 24 I think you have to take the chance and pick him.

Man if Mccants was at #24 I'd piss my pants. I'd take him over everybody besides Diogu (who I feel is just about a perfect PF for this team). Mccants is like the third coming of Arenas and Artest. His head isn't screwed on right, but you forgive him that because of his incredible talent. Did you see his pre-draft combine numbers. He absolutely has the lateral quickness to be a shutdown perimeter defender. Couple that with a top-flight shooting touch, and he's without a doubt worth the risk of a mid to late 1st round draft pick.

Unfortunately, none of these guys will be there by the time HOU picks. Instead, it will be PFs like Turiaf and Lee and SGs like Garcia and Hodge. Hopefully, Simien slips down to 24...

Add Rodman to the list of best rebounders. Nothing but a 6'8" pogo stick.

Most rebounds are grabbed below the rim. Determination and fundamental blocking out are the two keys.
