    I'm in the post 9/22 but the posts saying they're in the same group but have power is making me feel a tad better. Though I'm just glad I have any sort of guess as to when I have my power back on.

    Even if they have more people working in the heavily damaged areas it could still take longer to get power back to most of the people in the area. Theoretically they could have 100 workers in a lightly damaged area and have power back in a day and 500 in a heavily damaged area and it take longer to get power back. Plus, having more workers in an area may not help if there is nothing for them to do while waiting on poles or trees to be cleared.

    True. It just seems pretty obvious from the map that they are going west to east. If I was running the company, and profits and capitalism was my motive, I'd want to (1) get as many people back online as soon as possible, and (2) get as many high paying customers back on line as soon as possible, and (3) worry about public perception of your work.

    Just seems to me that both 1 and 2 would lead you to think they'd start with dense urban areas, particularly near the west side of town, though I can appreciate they'd want to at least get some customers back asap and to the extent that is easier to do west to east, that makes some sense. just curious as to the reasoning...

    I'm in the behind 9/22 group, but I've had power since Monday. I guess I'm pretty lucky.

    Best way by far I've seen to figure out who has power vs. who doesn't is on the Chronicle's site.

    You input your zip code, and people who have had their power restored post that they have. It shows up in little balloons on the map.

    So far, the chunk of my zip code has bupkis.

    Ummm, I've had power since 7pm last Saturday being on the hospital grid and my parents got power back on Monday. All the stop lights are working and all of the stores and food places are open and serving. That list is cruel.

    The extra help from other areas probably didn't get ramped up and into action until Monday at the earliest.

    Centerpoint Outages

    Code:

                        Out of Service
    Saturday morning     2.10 million
    Saturday evening     1.99 million
    Sunday evening       1.72 million

    Monday evening       1.56 million
    Tuesday evening      1.43 million
    Wednesday evening    1.34 million

    From Midday Saturday through Sunday evening and using mainly their own people, Centerpoint was able to restore service to 380,000 customers (2.1 - 1.72).

    From Monday through Wednesday evening and having more manpower from other utility companies, they were able to restore service to an additional 380,000 customers (1.72 - 1.34).

    <I>
    (1) get as many people back online as soon as possible,
    </I>

    Looking at the data, that is what they did. With less than two full days on Saturday and Sunday and less manpower, they were able to restore 380,000 customers. Having Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with more manpower, they were able to restore 380,00 customers.

    <I>
    (2) get as many high paying customers back on line as soon as possible
    </I>

    I don't know how to obtain their customer data, so have to pass at addressing that.

    <I>
    (3) worry about public perception of your work.</I>

    Wouldn't <I>moving the number</I> on customers restored as they have done support that is what they did?

    If you read the posts people are posting, most of them (in my area anyway) are saying things like "oops, I meant to say we DON'T have power."

    Kingwood is still totally in the dark and 77345 isn't even listed on Centerpoint's website. Entergy (my provider) is estimating around the 1st week of October...

    77096 is all still dark. I drove through the neighborhood a different way this morning and nothing is powered on except for the Kroger and the Police Station. I've seen lots of cop cars, but not a single damn Centerpoint truck. At this rate, we won't get power until 2009. :(

    I've been lucky, in that regard. (although I still don't have power yet.)

    Regardless, you can scroll over the balloons near you to see what the people are saying.

    Well, as soon as I hit submit, I get a call from my wife saying the power just came back on. :eek:

    We are actually in 77339, but are staying with relatives in 77345 because they have a generator (which went out yesterday). So.....it looks like they will be staying with us this weekend.

    Hang in there everybody. I really think a lot of people will get power back today and tomorrow. Keep in mind, we have Entergy and as recently as last night, they were telling us it was going to be at least another week.

    When they give these restoration dates, that means the last person on the last line. That probably isn't you and you will get it before that. Hang in there!

    Well my power came back on for me in 77008 Wednesday night, and went out again this morning. It came back on 5 minutes later for everyone except for me and the 2 houses next to me. I'm worried that means I'm going to be waiting a long time once again. :( :(

    Maybe you should check your breakers?

    See, that's why I'm not gonna rush and buy perishable foods for a bit when we get our power back until we can say that power won't be going out again.

    I'm in the new neighborhood at 13th and Shepherd.

    We tried the breakers and that didn't do any good. This same thing happened about a month ago when power went out for some random reason....everyone came back on except for us and the 2 houses next to us, which didn't come back until a few minutes later. So we must be on the same circuit or something as them.

    good points, and may be what they accomplished. i'm not actually saying "screw you centerpoint, I have no power and johnny does!". I realize they are working hard.

    Just curious, as to if they had taken another route, might there have been more people with power back on by now? gettign a bunch of people back on-line really quick was smart in regards to point 3. but if they could get to the 75% mark sooner by going another way, even if that meant much fewer people with power back the first few days and nights, wouldn't that make more sense, as a company? but, maybe they are being most efficient. just curious.

    and all that said, I DO think people have a right to be upset. Electricity isn't a god given right, but it is something people pay for. I do not have power. It's ok. But there are plenty of domino effects of me not having power that do make me upset. it's like if you are seriously delayed at the airport. a lot of times you know that it is nobody's fault, but damn straight you're going to be upset about it and question some things.

    My mom said she'll be w/o power at least until next Wednesday... :mad: That sux...I can't imagine being w/o power for so long...She was able to borrown my ex's generator, which was really nice of them...Cable's out but she bought some HD rabbit ears so she finally has something to do...Now she's waiting for the adjuster to come so they can give her $$ for the repairs...
