i have some of downtown. i havent had a chance to get to the chase building. ive only been to wells fargo, and shell. it was my first time ever going to that wells fargo in the wells fargo building. some hotties in that place. i'm thinking about dumping wamoohoo for them.
Man, I haven't had power yet, and haven't seen the aftermath...wow. If I had been in storm surge danger, I would have definately left. I'm running on generator power at the moment, and luckily have the phone line back up for internet. This storm was so big, that it just pushed massive amounts of water, regardless of the cat 2 wind speed. Anything over a cat 3, and I'm leaving next time.
Dang ! That pix with the casket rising above is just plain scary. I hope you guys in the area are all safe.
Here's a few of mine. I got real lucky and only sustained minor damage and lost two trees that were just off my property anyway....a shame they decided to fall on my fence, we had just got the backyard setup pretty nice. Got some minor shingles missing and a few smaller branches broke off the huge live oak in front...Im very thankful that tree stood tall and didnt fall, it would have devestated the entire front part of my house. Wife's favorite place to relax after Ike
Here's the extent of my damage. All of the common walls at our townhomes that separate our patios blew over.
We need to rethink the whole Saffir-Simpson category system. Way too misleading. People thought they knew what a Cat. 2 was....until Ike. It doesn't communicate to the public what they want it to communicate. Too limited to just describe a hurricane by its wind speed.
So what category was Ike in terms of wind speed and damage? I don't think I saw that much damage in Orlando with Hurricane Charley(cat 2).
Agreed...I've always thought, eh, unless it's a cat 3 - 5, nothing to worry about...pics above tell another story...
Ike was a Cat. 2 storm. People have perceptions about Cat. 2. We read it over and over again on this message board in the hours before landfall. One guy kept "LOL"ing at the fact that we were blowing this Cat. 2 storm out of proportion..."more media hype!! lolzzzzz!" It was misleading to say the least...it did not fully communicate the power of this storm. And Galveston Island can speak directly to that...as can my office building in West Houston that probably won't be up and running for another month. Thanks, Ike.
