I think Battier, Alston, and Hayes are rotation players, but not starters for a contender (Battier maybe). Finding legitimate starters with just the MLE or by trading non-rotation players is highly unlikely. In addition, most mediocre FA want multiple year deals in order to come. When you give multi-year deals to mediocre players you stay mediocre. It's a vicious cycle.

The other issue is T-Mac's and Yao's injury problems. T-Mac is damaged goods and other teams know that, so you are not going to get equal value, but you might find a team that will deal draft picks and expiring contracts for the chance to win now. In any case, I would dangle anyone in the hopes that there is a Hershal Walker type idiot out there that will save our bacon.

I agree that JVG should have played Span and Novak so we would know what we have. But he didn't and we can't just assume they are the missing puzzle pieces. I hope they are. If we stay status quo I will keep my fingers crossed and root like hell that I'm wrong, because no matter how frustrated I get I still love watching the Rockets play.

just can't believe why it is so hard to pay the damn luxury tax once in a while. It is sad to know that the owner is not willing to do so. Or is he now? Another thing, is trying to move bad contracts and get players via trade but in my opinion, time is not right to rebuild when the we are still in win-mode now

    Trade Scenario 1
Michael Redd + Charlie Villanueva for T-Mac

    Trade Scenario 2
Yao+Howard+Sura+Head for Kevin Garnett + filler

    Michael Redd
    Kevin Garnett
    Charlie Villanueva
    Shane Battier
    Rafer Alston

This team here can fit Adelman style much better than our current roster. Michael Redd is a dead-eye shooter and a smart player. Kevin Garnett will be the heart and soul of the team showing true leadership and HEART!!!!

If Les was willing to pay the luxury tax, I would gladly change my mind about trading T-Mac or Yao. I think they are both great players, I just don't think they're enough by themselves to get us a championship and that is the only acceptable goal. WE ARE NOT THE CLIPPERS. Just making the playoffs is not good enough. Come on, Les. Man up like Cuban, (and Drayton for that matter) and get us some players.

That is interesting, then you would basically be building completely around Yao, who IMHO is eventually going to be the dominant leader we need him to be.

    Interesting take Yetti....

You won't get equal value for T-Mac, but I think you can get more than Barbosa and Diaw. I think it would be better to get expiring contracts and draft picks. Build with inexpensive youth and with the freed up space attack the big FA market in 2008/2009.

Hey blame Les for the way he handled the JVG situation but I agree that being a team that is always over the luxury tax is irresponsable to the game, NBA and pro sports in general. Saleries in all sports have been out of controll and NBA teams should stay within the limits to keep the game going well. Last thing the NBA needs is one player who makes more than an entire team like in baseball.

This irks me because we are always seeing threads about how Les is cheap etc. etc. Not true at all, we are always over the cap and just under the tax like most NBA teams. Also if your a ticket holder for the Texans/Astros and Rockets than you know Les rolls out the red carpet and takes care of his ticket holders and makes you feel like your part of it. Astros and Texans don't do **** above and beyond for ticket holders.

So what did you expect him to say...

Blah, Blah, Blah dump all the guys I like and keep all the guys I hate?

It seems that you have a major burr in your ass about DD.

Agree with or disagree with him you know the guy is a true fan of the Rockets.

Yeah, probably short-sighted, but man it would be tempting to have Yao, T-Mac and another real star. I still think my orginal trade from many threads ago, Josh Howard and Jason Terry for T-Mac was the best idea I've heard.
Cuban couldn't resist the wow factor of having T-Mac and we would get Near-T-Mac Josh Howard and a fast point guard that can shoot.

    My point is this:

Question: Haven't you already said this like 100 times in 100 other threads?
    Answer: Yes

I don't mind people making a point and speaking their minds. I just think you do it often, the same way and then start new threads to re-emphasize it. That gets old.

I don't think I would trade Battier for AC LAW. I love A.C., but I think Shane gives us too much.

I am asking what people would do to overhaul this team's roster, and yes some of the smaller takes on individuals I have posted about before, but if I am going to talk about the Rockets team in general, I can't leave out V-Span etc simply because I have talked about him ad nauseum.

Therefore I include him in the topic, but not to talk about him in particular but to talk about how to improve my beloved team.

And if the right deal comes along, I would be happy to trade anyone on the team with the exception of Yao.

So, to answer your blah blah blah point, most of the original post I have not necessarily talked about in the context we are discussing here.

And I never said I was right about anything, I am attempting to tone down that portion of my posting persona....otherwise I could be having a field day, right about now about the new coach, but what good would that do? How would that help the board heal?

It would be hard to part way's with Battier for sure, but like Gator, I really want to see Tracy back at the 3. I don't think Battier is a full time 2 by any stretch. Unless Adelman decides Battier is a 4 (which might be a possibility) I think trading him for a good young point guard would benifit the Rockets more than making him a bench player.

What I would really like....and I know this is a pipe dream...

Rafer + this years first + next years second for the right to draft Acie Law and what ever baggage we needed to take to make it work.

Anyway, I would like to see Acie Law and V-Span a double point guard at times with both handling the pg duties. Unless of course V-Span sucks under Adelman too, then of course I will be ready to let him go back to Greece.

There are multiple threads about who we should draft, who we should trade, and who we should sign in free agency. Most of the Adelman threads (de)generated into what we still need.

The idea is not exactly fresh.
