    To play Devil's Advocate:

Anybody else think that if the Rockets obtained Brand now or in the summer, could Yao and Brand have some of the same problems Barkley and Dream had when they were bookends (prefering the same side of the floor, dominant post players i.e. duplication, exclusively a half-court, power basketball team)?

And save the "Yao is God, he can play PG if he wants, blah blah" crap, Yao Ming's future is as a dominant inside presence who can step out on occasion.

    Brand brings toughness.
    Brand brings consistency.
Brand is a monster in the paint and on the boards.

But will Brand also step on Yao's feet?

Those who are thinking money first, the Mobley for Brand trade is still worth it because the deal is so utterly lopsided (forgetting for the moment that it won't happen). Once you have Brand, you can trade him again and get more than Mobley in return. Or, you can trade others (like Griffin and big contract(s)) to reduce payroll. He's worth the headache.

Besides that, if we're talking about a sign-and-trade, the salaries would have to match. So, only Mobley wouldn't do it. You'd have to throw in a big contract or two along with it, so we'd be in a similar spot payroll wise at the end.

If I was the owner of an NBA franchise I would never stand pat.

I would never have a team that flounders in mediocrity for 4 yrs.

I would never choose longterm patience over instant gratification.

I would never put up a billboard of a CBA players afro.

I would never have a slogan entitled Be Part of Something Big and then do so little when it was time to something so drastic.

I would not have a motto that says 'lose now, win later'

I would lose money, but damn would I be happy.

so i say lets make a damn deal!

Grant, Jones, Best, bring 'em on!

Miller, Brand, yeah I'll swing that too!

Barry, Payton, now thats my style!

    Just win, baby, just win!

Right. This would never happen but I would take Brand quickly. Quality big men are always a taker.

Live brings up some great points. I watched Brian grant and Alonzo Mourning destroy each other's careers that way. Wrong pieces to fit into a puzzle.

But, judging by some Clippers games I've watched, and all the Rockets games I've watched, Brand and Yao prefer opposite sides of the floor, and both can switch sides if needed.

Also, Brand has been on the Clippers and the Bulls, so he's done he's tried runnin n gunnin, triangle for a while, and the halfcourt set. He's 6'8, so I don't think he'd have a problem with anythign we run. As for Yao Ming, he looks fine out there, and will look better once he improves his stamina over time.

To tell you the truth, it's more important to be good at the halfcourt game than any other type of game. In the playoffs, the game slows down a lot, and the halfcourt game is what you want to be able to execute the best.
