seriously, on most of these lists i can't tell if i'm reading the one skill to let you stay around or how to be an all-star. as a single answer across all positions, it would be shooting. the older you get, you're D will suck more b/c you'll just plain get slower and all the effort in the world won't save you. passing will really only help if you're a pg, and even then you need mj like passing just to keep that up once the athleticism leaves. rebounding, same thing. shooting, does that ever leave (except for piatkowski)? putting the ball in the whole will always be a ticket onto the court (even though what Bailey said is true nowadays) and it doesn't really depend on anything that's going to go away with age (i guess you could say court vision/passing doesn't leave but the ability to get yourself in those positions to use it will). hit shots when yo're open like eddie johnson and such and you can hang around for a while. for a more specific thing, if you're 7' and can stand up right and commit 6 fouls, you can hang around for a while, too.
My turn: PG-- Court vision SG-- 3 pt shooting C-- Post defense SF-- Midrange Jumper PF-- Rebounding The one skill above all that will keep you in the league is great man-to-man defense.
PG-court vison SG-consistent shooting from all ranges--mid range and 3 pt. SF-defense PF-reliable post moves C-toughness/hustle Happy?
I'd rank these qualities as the most important for a mediocre player: 1) hustle 2) hustle 3) hustle If I had to pick just one, I think I'd have to go with: Hustle!
I'll second that. And after your prime you can still sign with a contender, coming of the bench and play like 10 minutes and still sack some 2 mio dollars. what a life.
1. 3 point shooting. 2. shot blocking 3. defense If a single mediocre player could do those 3 things, he'd have a permanent mid-level exception contract.
Argh PG - 3 point shooting SG - 3 point shooting SF - 3 point shooting PF - defense C - shot blocking
PG- being able to at least not run an offense into the ground and able to set up teammates, i.e. Mark Jackson, Bimbo Coles SG- able to shoot the three ball, i.e. Eddie Johnson, Wesley Person, Dell Curry SF- defense, i.e. Bruce Bowen, Keith Askins PF- defense and rebounding, i.e. Othella Harrington C- being 7 ft. tall, i.e. Greg Ostertag
Argghhh ... my turn ... I would say 3 point shooting. If you remain consistent and injury-free over the years, you can play till 50.
De. Fense. Good defenders will always be able to get a job, unless they're headcases (coughRodmancough)
