If you were a Cavs fan, how would you feel if LeBron didn't resign?

They might as well shut down the organization If Lebron leaves.

I hope Cleveland BOO's Lebron If he leaves and comes back for a game...

I was thinking about that..but this is sooo much more than that.

First of all...Lebron's impact on the game is far greater than Beltran's is/was.

Second of all...Lebron was drafted by the Cavs...and...more importantly, maybe...grew up there. He's home-grown.

This would be more akin to Hakeem leaving us in 1993 given his UH days and his connection with the city.

Plus...the 'stros won the NL pennant the year after Beltran left. He still hasn't played in a World Series.

I can't believe you posted that. James has done nothing, yet, to put himself in the same sentence with Hakeem. And I don't like your comparison saying it's worse for the Cleveland fans if James left than it would have been for Houston fans if the Dream had left in his prime because "while Hakeem went to school at UH, Lebron is from Ohio." I guess you aren't old enough to have been a UH fan while Hakeem was playing with the Coogs, helping them to consecutive NCAA championship games and still being the only NCAA Tournament Player of the Year to play for the losing team, in 1983.

Seriously, my mind is blown. James has done nothing in comparison.

The young guy for all his glitz and glamour still seems like a good guy to me. I think he knows his HOMETOWN would be devastated if he left. I am not sure he has that in him to coldly take that heart out of them. As a Rockets fan I have a vested in interest hopin he doesntend up in New York but he does too. New York cant win. Only a couple of teams can win the Championship with adding him. Miami, Chicago, and Cleveland.

If he stays with Cleveland trust me all will be forgiven. If he leaves, he will and should be boo'd in Cleveland for the rest of his career. Especially after the lousy playoff performance and media drama.

Well, the first time I saw Hakeem play was for the Rockets during his rookie season. I was 8 years old. So I suppose you're right. But I'll also admit that college basketball just doesn't mean anything to me. I went to Syracuse University, and they usually have a good team. I never watched their games. I don't consider myself a Carmelo fan. I just don't care about college ball.

And I also agree that Lebron hasn't accomplished what Hakeem has. Of course he hasn't. He isn't but half way through his career, if that. But are you seriously going to deny his talent? I love Hakeem dearly, but you'd find very few people who even try to argue that he's the best player to ever play his position. I truly believe Lebron may be the best to ever play the game when all is said and done. We'll see.

If I were a Cavs fan, and if LeBron didn't resign, it'd purely be like a death in the family, and any true response of mine would be like that Minor Threat song where they scream, "it's like screaming at a wall".

Even if I could block it out, I bet I'd still wind up going right back to reliving the MJ buzzer-beater over and over again. NIGHTMARES!! :(

I also didn't mention this: if Lebron leaves Cleveland, I just can't really imagine them ever being a contender. If they can't even keep a superstar who was born and raised as a Cavs fan, what chance do they stand? Hell, they couldn't get Bosh to go there to team up with Lebron.

I hated to see Hakeem go to the Raptors and then retire, but I never doubted that we'd eventually be a contender again. Although, I can't say as I really expect to ever see a Rocket as talented as Hakeem again.

Obviously I prefer for Lebron to resign with the Cavs as a Rockets fan, but a part of me is curious how much loss in productivity in the Cleveland if Lebron announces he's leaving for New York.

Maybe they should just shut down on Friday for a day of mourning. :)

Wait a minute! You went to Syracuse and didn't watch their team? I guess you became a basketball fan later in life. No crime there. It is a crime, however (or should be) to say that "I love Hakeem dearly, but you'd find very few people who even try to argue that he's the best player to ever play his position" here at ClutchFans, of all places. I believe he is one of the top 3 to ever play the position. Personally, there's no doubt in my mind that Hakeem is the best, although I would be willing to consider Wilt as the better player, having seen him play on TV a few times. The guy was like a man among boys. Really! It was remarkable just how dominate he was. Like the Dream, however, he was not a great team player. Unlike the Dream, he never really evolved into one. That was his fatal flaw. That, and not being on the Celtics. I'd give anything to see Wilt play against Shaq. It would have been fun and, in my opinion, all other things being equal, he would have beaten Shaq badly. Hakeem might have had a chance, dancing around Wlit, but Wilt was amazingly quick for such a big guy and incredibly strong.

What has James done to compare to Hakeem's accomplishments?

I don't think what James has done yet compares to what Hakeem has accomplished. But what had Hakeem accomplished by Lebron's age? Not much.

I will say that Lebron James led the Cleveland Cavaliers to the best record in the NBA last year. That is pretty amazing. It's the Cleveland Cavaliers. THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS!

And I didn't become a basketball fan later in life. I've been a die hard Rockets fan since my father took me to that first game in 1984. But I'm not much of a sports fan I guess. I literally only follow the NBA. And, ironically, here I am arguing that Lebron is a greater player than Hakeem when Hakeem is literally the reason I am an NBA fan. Had I not witnesses his greatness in person in my childhood, I sincerely doubt I'd be an NBA fan.

LeBron was a Bulls, Yankees, and Cowboys fan growing up. He's just a front runner so at a young age he didn't show much loyalty for his home area.

My argument for Dream's greatness is that if it's the last 30 seconds in an all-time all-star game and the score is tied, it doesn't matter if Dream is going against Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, or Bill... you're going to have to double team Dream and on the other end it's a good chance Dream will stop any one of them without a double team.

James is a great player, but Dream might be the top offensive/defensive player in history. James is not even close on the defensive side, even though he seems to have mastered the from-behind block of a layup.

This is terrible. Are you serious?

Don't put Dream and Queen James in the same sentence.

Man I want to comment on this. But I'll refrain from doing so out of common sense.

Dream led the Coogs to the NCAA championship game at age 20 and, as I mentioned earlier, won the 1983 NCAA Tournament Player of the Year award, being the only player in history to win it playing for the losing team. The next year, he led UH to another championship game, with another tough loss. That was at age 21. In 1984, he was the #1 pick of the draft and had an immediate impact on the Rockets, averaging about 12 boards, close to 3 blocks, and 20.6 points per game. Still not 25 years old. In his second season, Olajuwon was the key player the opposing teams had to stop in an amazing run to the NBA Finals. For the season, his stats increased across the board. In fact, his first 4 seasons, which carry him to age 25, the age of James, show averages of 76 games played, 36.6 minutes played, 11.73 total rebounds (4.6 offensive), over 3 blocks per game, about 1.8 steals and 2 .1 assists per game, and he averaged 22.6 points per game, with a 52% FG percentage. That's his career averages for the first 4 seasons to the age of 25. All-NBA First Team twice, All-Defensive First Team ('87, '88), and he was an All Star every season.

All this by age 25. What was it you were saying?

If James chooses not to resign with Cleveland. He better win something by the end of his career, because not only has he tainted his career with self indulgence, but managed to slap the face of the very place that supported and loved him for all these years.

Whatever. Cleveland sports fans seriously deserve all of the heartbreak that their teams have given them over the years.

I really didn't want LeBron to go to the Knicks. That was the #1 team I was rooting against. But I was also hoping that he'd leave Cleveland, just because I figured the fan reaction would be hilarious.

Seriously, I really don't like Cleveland sports fans.
