I would add: "Kung Flu" "Mexicans are rapists and murders. And maybe a few good people." "Muslims are terrorists that needed to be banned from the US. Except of course the Saudis, the buy my toys and pay cash.."
This is one of those gray areas where if you support x then you must be y. Kind of like if you've ever committed a crime in your entire life you're a criminal or if you've ever lied you're a liar. I would say odds are good if you support Trump you're either a racist, extremely hateful, incredibly greedy, or just ignorant. There's no question that Trump is all of those. Then there are those who vote Trump just because they're Republican and many would claim this is their reasoning but they're just lying like a lot of Trump supporters do because they're too embarrassed to claim him. We all know Trump isn't really a Republican, he's not really a conservative, he's not fiscally responsible, he's not for limited government, he's not an evangelical, etc. Trump has hijacked the Republican Party and many Republicans have gone along with it for the sake of power. As soon as Trump is done they will turn on him in a instant and pretend they didn't support him. What's really appalling to me is the way Christians have lined up behind Trump. This is a group that is incredibly judgmental over all manner of people but embraces the most vile, disgusting excuse for a human being we've ever seen in public office just for the sake of power. We know political conservatives are a might makes right group, now we know Christians are right in there with them.
Disappointed that the poll wasn't public. I want to know who automatically condemns their fellow Rocket fans based on one political decision.
As bad as Nazi Germany?? No. The Trump admin is not the Nazi regime and they don't have that kind of power in our system. However there are many striking similarities to the 21st century US and PRE WW2 Germany. Understanding how Hitler came into power is a fascinating tale of what happens when you have a governing society that has too much power at the corporate level, and you have civil unrest due to injustices & economic hardships from having a system where the business class continues to line their pockets while the working class struggle to put food on the table. Corporate Germany turned to Hitler during the Reichstag elections to consolidate the Right because that was the choice they made to back because of the fear of the Social Democratic Party giving credence to the protesters (named... wait for it.... ANTIFA), reversing the policing powers the previous Chancellor was given to put a stop to protests, and give reforms to the lower class German citizens which would have resulted in higher taxes for the rich Germans of course. So it was the German corporate class .... much like here in the US today who chose to back Hitler in those elections... basically out of fear of a Bernie Sanders type taxing the wealthy. They chose a police state and fascism because of the thought it was a better choice to line their pockets... and Pre WW2 Germany Oligarchs had a better case to be made about that financial decision that the 21st century American Oligarches do. Hitler was key in the boom the economy was seeing with the rise of VW and other industries that the Nazi party had helped prop up. The 21st Century Republican Party led by Trumpism has nothing economically that compares, and justifies an economic case like the Nazi party and Hitler had back then. .... However to the point what happens after is likely not anything comparable. I don't believe gas chambers for Jews are a thing that will happen under Trumpism. What you see in Turkey, Belarus, and Russia probably are pretty comparable. Venezuela is possible, but unlikely to get that bad. We just have to wait and see if Trump wins, and is allowed to take the country into an Autocratic state of governance what that looks like in the 21st century. However everything pre Reichstag Elections is strikingly similar, and we should take note of the power in influencing governing power that we give our corporate oligarchs & what can happen with that level of power. The Bible says it best that "Money is the Root of All Evil"... and aint that the truth?
Just to follow up on the good post by Dobro. Trump certainly isn't Hitler and making him like Hitler is Godwin's law in action and a disservice to the debate. Trump and his movement scapegoats a lot but other than the nebulous "Left", there isn't a single group that is targeted. It's either Muslims, Mexicans, Antifa, BLM, immigrants and etc.. that are blamed. I've long felt that Trump isn't actually racist in terms of that he just hates people for the color of his skin. What I think he is more is a classist in that he looks down upon poor people and it's that combination of race and poverty that he really looks down on. For example he has no problem palling around with wealthy black people but countries like Haiti and most of Africa are "sh^tholes" because they are poor. You also look at how much he brags about his own wealth and how he talks about how he is more elite than his political opponents. Class is clearly how he judges people. Even his own supporters who he has publicly called "low information" and constantly feeds them obvious lies.
The Trump agenda is to promote racism. I can't fathom why you would vote for Trump unless you are a billionaire, but if you do you are voting to extend racial strife and inequality... by design. That is the definition of evil and you are complicit.
i get what youre saying, but disagree...he is a classist, but trump is also straight up racist. look at his words and actions over the last 50 years. 1) saying that an american-born federal judge cant do their job properly b/c of their ethnicity is the definition of racism. 2) calling mexican immigrants rapists and drug dealers is racist. 3) saying neo-nazis who chant "jews will not replace us" are "very fine people" 4) calling for death penalty for central park 5, even after they were exonerated 5) calling for a ban of muslims entering the united states 6) attacking a gold star mother and saying that she was not allowed to speak b/c she was muslim 7) discriminatory housing practices in his properties. 8) making a slur about native americans right to the face of a native american WWII vet. 9) birtherism 10) "We've just seen many, many crimes getting worse all the time, and as Maine knows — a major destination for Somali refugees — right, am I right?" - August 2016 11) "the overwhelming amount of violent crime in our cities is committed by blacks and Hispanics," 12) falsely claimed that 81% of murders against whites are committed by blacks
There is a lot of overlap but I just don't see him inherently hating people for their race. I think he certainly hates poor black and brown people more than poor white people but if you have money he will be your either be your best buddy or consumed with envy like he is with Bezos and Bloomberg. None of this makes him a good person whether he really hates people for the color of their skin or judges them on their bank account.
this reminds me of an essay I read last week--still digesting this, but very thought-provoking. https://quillette.com/2020/08/16/the-challenge-of-marxism/ and an interesting section near the end on implications for conservativism in the U.S.: Until 2016, America sill had two legitimate political parties. But when Donald Trump was elected president, the talk of his being “authoritarian” or “fascist” was used to discredit the traditional liberal point of view, according to which a duly elected president, the candidate chosen by half the public through constitutional procedures, should be accorded legitimacy. Instead a “resistance” was declared, whose purpose was to delegitimize the president, those who worked with him, and those who voted for him. I know that many liberals believe that this rejection of Trump’s legitimacy was directed only at him, personally. They believe, as a liberal friend wrote to me recently, that when this particular president is removed from office, America will be able to return to normal. But nothing of the sort is going to happen. The Marxists who have seized control of the means of producing and disseminating ideas in America cannot, without betraying their cause, confer legitimacy on any conservative government. And they cannot grant legitimacy to any form of liberalism that is not supine before them. This means that whatever President Trump’s electoral fortunes, the “resistance” is not going to end. It is just beginning. With the Marxist conquest of liberal institutions, we have entered a new phase in American history (and, consequently, in the history of all democratic nations). We have entered the phase in which Marxists, having conquered the universities, the media, and major corporations, will seek to apply this model to the conquest of the political arena as a whole. How will they do this? As in the universities and the media, they will use their presence within liberal institutions to force liberals to break the bonds of mutual legitimacy that bind them to conservatives—and therefore to two-party democracy. They will not demand the delegitimization of just President Trump, but of all conservatives. We’ve already seen this in the efforts to delegitimize the views of Senators Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton, and Tim Scott, as well as the media personality Tucker Carlson and others. Then they will move on to delegitimizing liberals who treat conservative views as legitimate, such as James Bennet, Bari Weiss, and Andrew Sullivan. As was the case in the universities and media, many liberals will accommodate these Marxist tactics in the belief that by delegitimizing conservatives they can appease the Marxists and turn them into strategic allies. But the Marxists will not be appeased because what they’re after is the conquest of liberalism itself—already happening as they persuade liberals to abandon their traditional two-party conception of political legitimacy, and with it their commitment to a democratic regime. The collapse of the bonds of mutual legitimacy that have tied liberals to conservatives in a democratic system of government will not make the liberals in question Marxists quite yet. But it will make them the supine lackeys of these Marxists, without the power to resist anything that “Progressives” and “Anti-Racists” designate as being important. And it will get them accustomed to the coming one-party regime, in which liberals will have a splendid role to play—if they are willing to give up their liberalism. long essay, but worth a look
Trump and many Republicans live in a world of winks, nods and plausible deniability. The stuff adds up but if you think it doesn't you're just stupid or don't care which makes you implicit. Most don't have skin in the game so it's easy to buy into the denials for them. They're more worried about trannies then your humanity.
I don't think all Trump supporters are racist. Some just like the tax cuts for the rich and some are just brainwashed into believing his lies because they are too naive to know any better.
