This thread has gone down a disappointing path...some of you people need to learn how to show some respect...
EXACTLY!!! God will answer you. You may not be happy with the answer you get, but he will answer you.
My mom used to get so mad at that Garth Brooks' song "Unanswered Prayers" for that very reason. I can still here her, "God answers all prayers...sometimes the answers just NO!!!"
Not that I claim to have "deep biblical knowledge" but let me try: I don't think God really cares whether the Bulls win or not. So praying for a team to win is childish. That said, God does care very much for the child who pray, even his/her prayer is childish. So the outcome of the prayer says more about God's relation to the child than God's relation to the team. Other than that, I don't see how anyone can read God's mind on matters like that.
Ah, nothing like one of MadMax's cuddle-fest lubby dubby threads turning into a religious war. Mildly amusing actually.
I believe it doesn't matter but I was not trying to derail this thread with some god debate. I just find it ironic, that's all.
outlaw - I can understand your viewpoint, why one would presume God takes sides based on a country. Wow... seems way out of character for you, rockHEAD. Really, really, really low-class.
Whats sad is people like this will be the first to stand up to point fingers and accuse people they are wrong when they make gay or racist jokes. But when something doesn't fit their beliefs, their "right to freedom" become hypocritial.
Interestingly enough, there was a time, largely when polytheistic faith dominated, but even well into the monotheistic era that many believers saw war as a competition between each other's gods...ie whoever won the war had a better, more powerful God...This is the origins of a lot of the still current practice for praying for victory while worshiping a God, be he Allah, the Christian God or whomever, who prioritize peace and reserves the right to judge for himself...
I am not religious & dont talk much on the bbs but if you can not see what is wrong with this then there is something wrong with you. How shameful and disrespectful to both people who choose to pray and people who choose to fight for our country.
