I stayed in Germany for a year and didnt like the 7-8 months of little sunshine.

I'm guessing Nordic countries has that cold and cloudy vibe for more than half a year, but Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands were great when i visited there.

Definitely needs a big adjustment if you've lived all your life in Sunbelt states, but open travel to Mediterranean countries makes it a bit better.

It's pretty rad here in New Zealand, but you are really, really far away from your people. Sometimes, that's a good thing.

I have a Cousin and her Wife who live there, free room and board once you get there.

I may never come back until they kick me out: Australia, Vietnam, NZ, Indonesia, etc....

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is becoming something more than a fun thing to think about after that last vacation. I'm also reasonably certain that we're about to start the first brain drain in US history. Since 2005, more women are earning doctorates than men and the gap grows every year. Now, not every woman has a PhD, but in general, smart women with means are not going to want to be in places that are anti-woman and anti-education. Neither do they want to raise their kids in an environment where they have to seriously consider shootings all the time. (Not D&D, just human nature and demographics.)

In conversations with my 20-something daughters and among their friends, more than a few are seriously looking at leaving the country and the intensity has stepped up since the Supreme Court leak. Three of my oldest daughter's friends are well into planning the move for the day they get their first graduate degree and are looking at European universities to continue their studies. I even know a high school senior who is going to college in Italy and never plans to come back. (We'll see how that goes, but she has the intelligence and personality to make it work.) They will all take boyfriends and husbands with them and then parents will follow. That includes me and Mrs. rimrocker should our kids make the move. Both are looking at Portugal as it's a relatively easy visa to get and provides a path to Portugese/EU citizenship after five years. Breaks my heart, but I understand.

There's definitely money to be made in setting up services to help Americans leave the country, but it could--and likely will--alter our culture substantially. Strange times.

Awesome post. There is absolutely money to be made in Moving Overseas packages.

Since you're here, what's the global outlook for 'the world is burning'? Is that more of a Western US issue or is it heightened in other areas of the globe?
