Japan.. if you ever seen Lost in Translation, that's how I feel whenever I go there. It's just so different.. in a surreal kind of way.

Could you elaborate on this statement?

As for the thread topic, I don't really feel qualified yet to answer this question. I have only been to three other countries outside of my homeland: the USA, Bahamas and South Korea. Honestly, I don't think I would want to retire in either of those places. I do plan on doing some heavy duty traveling in the next few years, so I will have a better idea then.

Mexico. In some west coast town with enough other Americans for some sense of home and an airport with an easy flight back to Texas. I like Mexico and Mexicans fine, and that would be an easy transition. As much as I might like another hemisphere, I can't imagine being that disconnected from family and friends.

Wow... I'm r****ded.... I missed the whole "outside your home country" part of the thread title.

So I'll just mosey on over to Canada and the Yukon. Besides by the time I retire the permafrost should be gone.

It did blow my mind when I visited. Guess you have to know where to live, plus I consider myself a good driver, so I'd be totally out of place.

I lived in Houston all my life, however, I was born in the Phillippines, and I love Marinduque, a small island province where many of my family still live. It's quiet, very friendly and easy-going people who understand English, little tourism, and very beautiful scenery. Not to mention it has one of the best burger shops I have ever eaten.

But really I would love to retire somewhere away from urban sprawl and suburbia. I would love to live in any of the European countries especially around the Mediterranean. Or somewhere in the Caribbean if it wasn't so prone to hurricanes.

I've lived in Europe. Their are plenty of cool things they do and pay attention to.

Their sports suck. Regardless. The half-hour show based upon the NFL was much more interesting than any "nil-nil" game.

As a limy, I can truly say that soccer sucks and Bush should take the word "football" away from the world, and, as an ambassador, I should be able to haphazardly pee on random fans who enjoy this soccer crap nonsense.

Is that truly too much to ask for these days? I'm at a loss as to what is acceptable.

Japan Taiwan and Hong Kong all because I have some kind of blood or relatedness.

England, because I hold an English passport.

    Australia because of Kylie Minogue

Italy. who can pass up italian food and Monica Belluci.

    France. Eva Green

Canada. Close enough to come back if I decide I need in-n- out burgers or bbq.

How does one model in Japan?

I would assume lots of facial transparent tape, and the inability to pronounce anything with an "R."

Damn. That was wrong, but I still find it funny.

I need to sleep. Without women, I only have y'all to screw with.

Probably my choice for Mexico as well. Love, love, love the Yucutan.

Argentina, splitting time b/t the Bariloche area & somewhere on the coast.

I would probably choose to live in the Loire Valley in France.

The place is beautiful, I've enjoyed my interactions with French people I've had in my visits there. I love the history. You can get a Chateaus with more than 4000 sq. meters of land and a guest houses for just over a million or a little more depending on how weak the dollar is.

I would also be close enough to Paris, and just far enough away as well.
