Disagree. I'd go with a more balanced approach. Take the stud RB in the 1st round and a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning type in the 2nd.
It's all about the points. The year Moss and Welker went to Boston, I took Brady with the #2 overall pick (#1 was Frank Gore) and put up with all the nammering in the room. The league is changing. It's an aerial attack league with too many 350 yd passing games to ignore. Also, RBs are all too often high risk. This year it was Foster, Charles, Turner, Johnson Last year it was Johnson, Jackson, Jones, Jones-Drew Year before it was Peterson, Turner, DeAngelo, Portis #1 pick HAS to be a sure thing. First round HAS to be a sure thing, but the production of the top backs swings in a big way year to year. QBs are consistent. Difference is, there's usually only 3 or 4 mega-number passers to choose from, and Peyton's quietly slipped out of the first tier of fantasy passers in the past few years. Also have to watch team consistency. I know what Rodgers going to do next year. Vick was huge for me this year, but I'm not as certain that he and the Eagles will be just as potent in 2011.
In most leagues you only have to start 1 QB and 2-3 RB's per game. There is not that much difference in PPG between the QB's, but if your stuck having to start a bad RB you're screwed. Always go RB in round 1. 1. Vick, Michael PHI QB 29.955 2. Brady, Tom NEP QB 23.331 3. Rodgers, Aaron GBP QB 23.266 4. Rivers, Philip SDC QB 22.660 5. Brees, Drew NOS QB 22.334 6. Manning, Peyton IND QB 21.899 7. Stafford, Matthew DET QB 20.833 8. Fitzpatrick, Ryan BUF QB 20.297 9. Romo, Tony DAL QB 20.217 10.Roethlisberger, Ben PIT QB 19.720 11.Ryan, Matt ATL QB 19.431 12.Orton, Kyle DEN QB 19.268 13.Cassel, Matt KCC QB 19.229 14.Flacco, Joe BAL QB 18.800
I am too much of a homer not to take a Texan when for the first time ever there is a reasonable case to be made for doing it. Foster put up an MVP type season with severely restricted touches (due to game situations and Kubiak fiat).
Depends on the point system. But I've had much better luck getting a decent RB later in the draft or off waivers than I have had with QBs. Plus QBs are remarkably consistent, whereas RBs tend to rise and fall quickly year to year, and in some cases game to game. A top 3 QB is a must in the first round for me most years unless there is an absolute no brainer MVP available (Marshall Faulk, LT, Priest Holmes, etc in their hayday).
