Not just a "Toronto," but also an "Orlando." And a "Houston." If he doesn't get traded for pieces in exchange for his expiring contract over the summer, let him come to camp. I don't have a problem with that. But his chances of coming back this year are less than zero. Thank god.

While I would prefer to have a rested, 75%-90% T-Mac come playoffs who could contribute at a high level off the bench for 10-15 minutes, I would take it. Don't get me wrong, I love how this young team (at the PG level) is molding/gelling together but if we want to make noise, we need T-Mac, at the above stated %, to compete with the Spurs, Lakers, Cav's, and C's which many of you are overlooking. (I know declaring he'd have surgery with SAS didn't sit well with a lot of us, but who knows maybe management did something we don't know).

    In other words,

    a. He is rested/doesn't play until after the end of the regular season
    b. He's at the 75% and up level
    c. He'll come off the bench for 10-15 minutes

    Go Rockets!!!

Can anyone but two people confirm this "story" that in fact T-Mac will return in two weeks. I find it hard to believe honestly, but you never know.

I will chime in on this debate, I think if he does come back and finish the rest of the season then he needs to earn his minutes.

so if he has been good in the past we shouldnt get mad at him????? he disrespected the fans, the coach and the whole orginazation. he gave up on us during the blazers game, ( so he costs us games) tmac is a flashy player and wants ATTENTION, as matter of fact he loves attention. and to answer ur question about chimestry: yes we do have a better chimestery without him, we did beat the bobcats and put the game away early with the bulls nets, and beat the mavs that had a 4 winning streak in our arean.

Absolutely. When he was the man. (And, not for nothing, when Yao wasn't.)

Absolutely. When Tracy is the man.

Absolutely wrong. The main piece that is different is McGrady.

When his head's right and his body's at least semi-right, he's great. Top ten or fifteen in the league. When the slightest little thing gets under his skin, his head goes wrong and he's horrible, dragging the whole team down with him. And you never know, night to night, which player you're getting, regardless of his physical health.

That's the whole point. He can be great for chemistry or terrible for it and you never know what you're going to get. In terms of long-term, learned, team chemistry, nothing could be worse.

Why would we need T-Mac on the team all he does is stop the ball.
With the current roster I see the ball moving from hand to hand and all around scoring not, just a one man game.

His sort of like a C-Blocker at a club preventing you from getting your points. :D

that, is not for sure, yet.

somehow i feel nervous. mcgrady may very well direct another episode of the drama. (say he announces tomorrow that he's not gonna have the surgery and would be back in a month or so - then...)

What if all the drama created by T-Mac regarding his knee was just a ploy to prevent the Rockets from trading him? If the Doctor in Chicago tells him that he does not need surgery, than I think we have all been duped including the Rockets organization.

What do you guy's think, did he pull all these shenanigans to prevent a trade or do you really think that the Rockets medical staff and other doctors were inaccurate in diagnosing Mcgrady's knee, and he in fact will need surgery?

Nothing's for sure until it happens. I thought it went without saying that the things I posted were just my opinions.

But my strongly held opinion is that the coach and GM and owner understand that, after the last several stupid soap opera months, what this team needs more than anything is a reliable rotation. And they have one. There is no reason whatsoever that they would take a chance on adding a one-legged, drama factory like McGrady to the bottom of the bench. To do what? Take over one in ten games while stunting the squad's growth in the other nine?

astros says give him one more chance. He's had lots of those. Our season's on the line now. That's no time to give McGrady his tenth chance in the same season. We need to jell. I trust that Adelman, Morey and Alexander understand that a lot better than anyone here does.

I expect that our roster might have been different if McGrady hadn't pulled his latest act right before the deadline. But, since he did, these are our horses. We're riding them.

    Yes, on both counts.

I know that you still think Maxwell is too.

    See what I did there?

    I don't think Maxwell is an allstar. I know he's a hero.

He's probably better than Steve Francis too right now.

At least Max would shoot the ball instead of having a 24 second violation for dribbling.

I probably deserve some of this laughter. Believe me, part of me is getting nauseous right now at the idea of bringing him back. All the same, I just don't think it's wise to close the door on the idea for the reasons I mentioned.

Your skepticism of him being unwilling to accept a reduced role is understood. I'm skeptical myself. There's no guarantee he would be willing to do that which is why if I were Adelman I would make the "terms" very explicit. If you want to play this year THIS is how it has to be. If not, we just pretend like this never happened and we add to our 15-6 record without him. But then you'll always wonder what if. What if he responds well to less pressure? What if playing on a team that's not so "It's on me" elevates his confidence and gets him to start trusting his teammates? I don't think the idea of this working is as radical as some here are suggesting.

Before I get flamed for defending this idea, let me say I think this whole scenario has a about 4% chance of actually happening. I don't think McGrady plays in another game this year (or any as a Rocket), i'm just merely playing with the hypothetical's and the idea of McGrady being healthy enough and accepting a reduced role are indeed huge hypothetical's. My point is in the unlikely event he's healthy and willing to adapt to this new role, I think it's wise to keep the option on the table. Again, who would you rather have coming off the bench in meaningful game: McGrady or Wafer? If you answered Wafer, consider also what if Artest is bombing away his off-balanced side-steppers, Battier is quiet, Barry is hurt and our offense stalls in a big game. That's a typical playoff scenario. Again: McGrady or Wafer? I still think it's an idea to consider.

No need to see the Wizard, tinman. Your undying love of Mad Max is evidence of heart enough.

    baller:

Look at our rotation. We're talking about our 11th or 12th spot if you're thinking McGrady vs. Wafer.

    And think about this.

They just don't want him in the locker room. The once and (not) future star as 12th man, sucking up the air in what is now a very positive, mission-driven locker room? No way, man.

It's not good for the team, it's not good for Yao, it's not good for Brooks/Lowry, it's not good for Wafer, it's not good for anybody. What do you get for your trouble? A little better 3 point FGP? At the expense of what?

    We're talking about a 12th man here.

Next year, fine. If he wants to rehab and make his mea culpas, fine. Show us what you got next year.

But he's done enough of a number on this year. We all thought we were dead in the water and guess what? We're not. Because he's gone for now. Hallelujah. Let these guys do what they can do since he's not, by any reckoning, going to be our star this year.

We can revisit it next year. And probably trade him, but maybe not. This year though? No way.

Wafer is the 12th man? He plays about 20 MPG and is the first two off the bench. This is the role i'm somewhat open to offering McGrady. Artest starts thus minimizing minutes where he and McGrady are on the floor together since those two have proven to be a disastrous together. If he looks/feels good physically and plays well enough give him the full 20 MPG and then some, if he plays like crap yank him and play Wafer. As I type this i'm sitting here thinking "Would he really be okay with that?" but this whole new attitude/role issue is part of this "agreement" to play again. Even with an ego as big as his he should understand why he would be kept on a short leash.

The locker room concerns with him are overrated too, IMO. The players have repeatably mentioned what ticked them off the most was the continuity aspect. The never-knowing-who-will-start aspect. This scenario doesn't mess with the starting unit at all. A bench player is a bench player. Some nights they are needed more than others. If he's open to all this and okay with playing 'Adelman Ball' I think i'm going to remain open to this highly unlikely scenario.

This team needs to show him that we don't NEED him to win ball games anymore. If these guys can do that, and Tracy really, really wants to play, I think he would have no other choice but to take a reduced role.

The problem is... how would the front office feel about a reduced role for Tracy? These guys are paying him 20$ million to play, and I'm not sure if they would be too happy about paying a guy that much money when he is getting 20 minutes a game.

mcgrady is not gonna handle playing-off-the-bench role well. for what it's worth, it ain't worth it. not gonna happen.
