I've been on the Randolph bandwagon for quite some time. Good to see a guy mess up so much in the past but finally put it together late in his career. I hope Memphis is able to make some noise in the playoffs.

The doesn't answer the question: Does he play defense? Numbers don't always show it. Do you feel comfortable with Zach defending the opposing PF or do you hope to stop other positions from scoring first?

Late bloomer in terms of shot selection, passing and playing a complete offensive game. He's surprised me after being a head case in Portland, NY and LAC.

The one negative about him that hasn't changed is the lack of speed and explosiveness ability... and there's nothing you can do about that. He's just born with skinny legs.

Yes he plays it. But our defense is really different what what you might be talking about. We basically have 5 guys playing passing lanes and help defense, and Zach is now one of them. Zach routinely gets perimeter steals because of our help defense. If Zach's man gets behind him, we have Tony Allen, Sam Young, Shane and Darrell Arthur that close and often block the shot, then Zach cleans up the glass.

I mean I don't want to overstate it, but our defense reminds me of the Sonics d, back in the day. If you remember Hakeem had the hardest time with the sonics because they were so quick with their double teams on him, so the grizzlies don't fear a great low post scorer, but I think your real question is if Zach is still lazy on defense and allows anybody to score on him at will, and the answer to that is absolutely not. Zach is active on defense now.

    This.

Early in the season it seemed they were going to let him walk and settle for just having Gasol at a cheaper rate, I hope they can't afford both.

That's the thing that always amazes me about Randolph. He's slow, fat, and is just not very athletic. He get's it done purely on skill and talent.

Haven't seen much of him to be honest. But I've obviously noticed his team winning. Does he still shoot too many jumpers?

He's not fat, not at all-- he just has a round face, that's all. His body is quite slim, especially in recent years when he's worked hard on his conditioning.

He's like the black Ellen Page.

    Ding ding ding

Hit the nail on the head. Gasol's situation is really under the radar thanks to the fact that he's not at all flashy, and plays in Memphis. Could be the steal of the off season. I'd take him over Nene, DeAndre, etc.

Just a solid center that will likely play the start at the position for the entire length of his next contract.

He's a good 3rd or 4th option to have on your team. There's a reason why dude is putting up 20/10 almost every year and has played a grand total of 7 games in his playoff career. He doesn't do everything you want a no. 1 or a no.2 to do.

Not sure about that. He's had some really clutch plays this season. And I used to hate him.

The best teams in history didn't have 4th options that were even close to Zach Randolph. What are you talking about?

Why will I be surprised? I saw him earlier this year and he was playing well.

Is he wearing one of those Hannibal Lecter masks or something?

when he's a 3rd or 4th option he's not gonna be putting up 20/10 night in and night out but he is capable of doing close to it in an efficient manner as he'll be playing off a better player. Zach if the king of empty stats

it's funny that whenever zach randolph is succeeding and producing, people have to find a negative reason as to why he's performing so well such as a "contract year."

what is it going to take for him to just be commended as a quality basketball player?

If he does it again next year. he will earn the respect.

none the less a guy who clearly has the talent to earn fat contracts.

And you are the king of senseless comments.

What 3rd or 4th option has ever put up 20/10, on any team, ever? Tim Duncan, in his prime, wouldn't put up those numbers getting 3rd option touches.

The point is, Randolph is NOT a 3rd or 4th option. He's a number 1 option, whether Gay is on the court or not. Back in the day when he was chucking up shots, shooting 43% from the field, he was not an elite player. Fact is, now he is.

In fact, I'll assume that you weren't talking about Randolph at all. That makes more sense.
